Pamela Hyde Mathewson

Pamela Hyde Mathewson; loving wife and mother, caring friend, wise woman, and inspiringly dedicated political activist and volunteer; died peacefully on Saturday April 16th, 2022, as the result of pancreatic cancer. She was 69 years old. Pam moved to Laramie in the late 1960’s with her mother, Jeanne Mathewson and sister, Jennie Mathewson so that Jeanne could teach in the English Department at the University of Wyoming. Before the move, they lived in Oxford England, and Berkley California.

Pam married her soulmate, Richard Ledford, in 1982.  They added daughter Veronica to their family in 1986, and the three made their home west of Laramie on the beautiful prairie at Harmony. There in their eco-friendly earth-ship house they cared for various animals, grew vegetables, and cooked up some amazing meals. Pam retired from Coe Library after many years of service to the University of Wyoming. She was a lifelong learner and pursued interests in archeology, anthropology, and politics, serving many positions for the Albany County Democrats, Wyoming Democratic Party, and NARAL.  Her life was lived in humble service to family, friends and deeply held convictions.

Pam lost many loved ones during her life including her parents Jeanne and John Mathewson, husband Rich Ledford, sister Jennie Mathewson, aunt Francie Corbett, uncle Bob Corbett, cousin Raven Corbett, and many beloved animals. She left behind her daughter Veronica Ledford, son in law Stephan Yuresco, cousin Bart Corbett, step mother Anita Mathewson, step sisters Jill Mathewson Vantine and Sandra Mathewson Trobman, and dear friends Sidney Peters, Lorinda Lindley, and Erin O’Doherty.

Pam’s life will be remembered and celebrated by family and friends this coming Saturday, July 15, 2023 from noon to 4:00 pm at the La Prele Park picnic shelter in Laramie. Everyone who was touched by this remarkable woman is welcome.
