VETERAN’S BURIAL BENEFITS

Eligible veterans, spouse and dependents under the age of 21 are eligible based upon the veteran’s active duty service or military retirement status.

**A DD-214 DISCHARGE IS REQUIRED TO PROVE ELIGIBILITY AND RECEIVE VA BENEFITS**

*** The VA will pay a burial allowance up to $2000 if the veteran’s death is service connected.

NOTE: The Veterans Administration and National Cemetery DO NOT Provide Funeral Services, or pre-arrangements. You must make arrangements through a funeral home.

WHAT MONTGOMERY-STRYKER FUNERAL HOME DOES FOR VETERANS

  • Contact the Veterans Administration (and National Cemetery as applicable) to notify them of the Veteran’s death.
  • Make arrangements for burial, and outer burial container as needed.
  • Provide the Veterans Administration with information in order to obtain the grave marker (headstone).
  • Arrange for Military Honors that are provided by the U.S. Armed Forces, or military organizations such as the VFW or American Legion.
  • Obtain your United States Flag, and arrange for presentation to the family.
  • Determine what burial benefits the veteran and/or eligible dependents are entitled to through the Veterans Administration. Application for such benefits is made in accordance with eligibility requirements.
  • Presidential certificate available.

NOTE: Veterans are entitled to a Flag, Military Honors and Presidential Certificate regardless of the choice of arrangements (burial or cremation).
