Michael Daniel Thomson, 65, of Laramie, Wyoming, passed away on July 1, 2026, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, the same hospital where he was born to William R. and Gloria J. Thomson on Nov. 7, 1960.
Michael attended St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic School as a youth and graduated from Laramie High School in 1979. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in 1984 and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in 1986, both from the University of Wyoming.
During college, Michael met and married Robin Summerville of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. They had three children, Paul, Andy and John. Even after their marriage ended, Mike and Robin remained connected through family and friends and made it a point to call each other on their birthdays.
While in college, Michael made a lifelong friend in fellow classmate J Edgar Hoover. Michael often traveled to Torrington, Wyoming, to visit with J and his wife Edna. Michael thoroughly enjoyed their many conversations and J’s cooking. Their friendship continued throughout Michael’s life, and Michael enjoyed a nice long visit at J’s home just a couple months before his death.
Later in life, Michael met Nancy Hoselton of Laramie whom he recognized as his soul mate almost from their very first meeting. They eventually lived together and enjoyed a close-knit bond and a loving relationship until Nancy’s death in 2023.
Mike and Nancy fished, went on picnics, and took trips to visit family in Wyoming and Colorado. In the summer, Mike planted a flower garden for Nancy, and they sat on their patio through the summer and fall and enjoyed the beautiful flowers together. Both Michael and Nancy loved the holidays, and especially Christmas. Nancy would decorate while Michael cooked the foods they most loved. Together they thoroughly enjoyed life and all its seasons.
Through Nancy, Mike made another dear friend, Thomas Welsbacher. Thomas lived next door, and he and Michael became close friends and could discuss just about any subject. Michael and Thomas were supportive of each other during good times and bad, and Thomas was particularly supportive to Michael after Nancy’s death. Thomas describes Mike as a great guy and a loyal friend.
While he spent much of his life in Laramie, Michael also lived and worked in Casper, Sheridan and Gillette, Wyoming, and Louisville, Colorado. Michael loved economics and marketing and worked in a variety of businesses including hotels, restaurants, insurance sales, food and grocery retail, men’s apparel sales and fireworks.
Michael loved laughing, joking and good conversation, especially about business and politics, movies, music, planting beautiful flowers and growing huge, delicious tomatoes, fishing, reading and cooking a big pot of green chili. He was a classic car enthusiast and worked at collecting and restoring a variety of vintage cars through the years.
Michael loved his family and friends, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Michael is survived by his sons Paul Thomson (Jessica) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and John Thomson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Dezin Thomson of Colorado Springs, Adia Thomson of Scottsbluff, and Kim Tran of Mount Pleasant; sisters Suzan Newberry (Greg) of Gillette; Sharon Thomson (James Tsuyuki) of Westminster, Colorado; and Sandy Aragon (Derrick) of Fort Collins, Colorado; former wife Robin Summerville Thomson of Scottsbluff; friends J Edgar and Edna Hoover of Torrington, and Thomas Welsbacher of Laramie.
He was preceded in death by son Andy R. Thomson of Scottsbluff; parents William R. and Gloria J. Thomson of Laramie; brother John Thomson of Hardin, Montana; and girlfriend Nancy Hoselton.
Condolences may be expressed at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home. A graveside service and burial will be held at Laramie’s Greenhill Cemetery on July 31st at 1:00 p.m.
