Lois Ann Pine, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin and friend bravely entered her eternal rest on March 7, 2025.
Lois was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Julia and Norbert Hasenkamp February 21st 1950. She attended St. Mary’s School for 13 years of Catholic education, instilling her strong foundation in her faith and as a servant to all those who were in her care. She spent many years volunteering as a candy-striper at DePaul Hospital, a block from her childhood home and one of her first jobs was working at Bunten Pharmacy in Cheyenne. Lois’ passion for healing those suffering or in pain is a testament of her knowing her vocation at an early age. After graduating from St. Mary’s in 1968, she attended St. John McNamara School of Nursing in Rapid City, SD. She then continued her education at LCCC , when she transferred to the University of Wyoming earning her bachelor’s in nursing degree graduating in 1976.
After Lois completed her nursing curriculum and practicum requirements, she began working at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, Wyoming for several years. She especially enjoyed working in the OB and neonatal units. Lois helped welcome the new babies into the wintery world of Wyoming by crocheting and knitting hats, especially for the preemie babies. Due to her overwhelming allergies to many of the soaps and use of latex in the hospital, she had to look for other ways to serve in her passion to care and nurture families and children. Returning her back to the University of Wyoming where she completed her Master of Science degree in Nursing in 1989.
Lois continued her career full-time for the State of Wyoming Health Department in Cheyenne as a consultant, teacher and program coordinator for the Stop Tobacco Program and Healthier Families Outreach. She provided various workshops and education to agencies and individuals for healthier families around the state. She commuted for more than 10yrs before finding her way back to the University of Wyoming as a teacher for the School of Nursing. She touched many lives and guided many students to follow in their passions. She was an advisor and professor for about 5 years. Our family was comforted knowing many of her past students and cohorts were forever in her life and involved in her personal care right up to her final days while a patient at Premium Home Health and Ivinson Memorial Hospital.
Lois received many honors during the course of her career including Who’s Who in American Nursing: 1984, 1987, 1988, 1993, 2000, and 2010. After retiring from teaching, Lois worked within the Hospice of Laramie. She treated each person as if they were a treasured member of her family.
Despite her growing medical needs, Lois never gave up her servant’s heart. She volunteered at St. Laurence Catholic Church in many facets: Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and was active in the Catholic Women’s group. She assisted with many Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Engagements, and Funerals. She loved every family member of her church with devotion. Lois especially enjoyed reading and teaching the word of the Lord in her many book clubs, deepening her devotion to her Catholic faith.
Lois was also active in several civic organizations. The Moose Club was near and dear to her heart due to their philosophy of helping youth in crisis. She enjoyed many of the activities they sponsored. Lois was an active member of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Sorority and served as regional president for many terms. Both Lois and Julius have spent many weekends on campus helping out and celebrating their Alumni with many Nursing School events, Concerts, Theater Productions and at the multitude of Cowboy Joe Club events and Games. GO Pokes!
Lois’ crowning achievement and most cherished possession is her family. Last year, she and Julius celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by their three children, three grandchildren and her soon to be born great-grandson, Tyler, who was born in August and many family and friends. Lois is survived by her husband, Julius of Laramie, WY, her daughter Peggy of Longmont, CO, her son Billy of Laramie, WY and her son Larry of Laramie, WY. She was blessed to be grandmother to Adrian Gillen, Kaysen Reilly-Pine, Davin Reilly-Pine and great-grandson, Tyler Gillen all of Laramie, WY. Lois is survived by her sisters, Rita Henderson of Littleton, CO, Linda Robbins of Cheyenne, WY, Cherri Hasenkamp of Cheyenne, WY and her brother, Bob Hasenkamp and his wife Jeanette of Magnolia, TX, sister-in-law, Cathleen Tucker of Casper, WY and brother-in-law John Pine of Sheridan WY. Lois is also survived by her nieces and nephews Jennifer Tucker of Scottsdale Arizona, Andrea Tucker of Helena MT, Rob Kometscher of soon to be Ocala FL, and Justin Henderson of Delta CO. Lois has numerous cousins throughout the United States and enjoyed catching up as often as possible. Lois had many friends that she cherished throughout her years in Laramie and Cheyenne and knew that she was greatly enriched by their presence in her life.

Julius, Peggy and Billy , and Larry. I’m so sorry that Lois has passed away ! I remeber how much I admired her. She seems to know what to do in any situation. The time she had our church group come to your house for Christmas dinner and party , was so extravagant, just perfect , and how you always decorated with so many lights your whole neighborhood glowed . She was so smart , but had that way about her to connect with anyone and make them feel comfortable! Many people will miss her! You are blessed to have her in your lives .
Blessings and prayers for all her family in the days ahead Ladonna Lee. Cousin

Lois is at peace and out of pain. My heartfelt condolences to Julius and the entire family. She will be missed by all those who loved her and especially by the Class of 1968 Reunion Committee for Central, East and St. Mary's high schools in Cheyenne. Lois was an integral part of the committee representing St. Mary's and she was very dedicated to her 1968 classmates. She would stay in contact with them for many of our reunions.
