William Dean Flock

William Dean Flock, 86, of Laramie, WY, passed away on Tuesday, Jan.24, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, WY.

Dean was born August 25th, 1936 in Garfield County, NE to Freida Louise and William Jennings Bryan Flock.  Alongside five siblings, he grew up on a farm outside Ericson, NE, milking cows and growing watermelon. Through 8th grade, he attended a one-room schoolhouse.

From 1951-1955, he attended Ord High School where he excelled at football, basketball, track and baseball. Dean was awarded a football and baseball scholarship to the University of NE where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He met his wife, Phyllis Kay Christensen, in high school, and they were married in 1959.

Dean served two years in the U.S. Army ROTC in Fort Ord, CA from 1963-1965. He returned to the University of NE to earn a Master of Arts in Secondary Education. In 1970, he earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of NE. He moved with his family to Seattle, WA for a two-year internship in surgery residency at Harborview Medical Center and Swedish Medical Center. He finished his specialized residency in Urology at the University of Kentucky. In 1975, Dean & Phyllis moved the family to Laramie, WY.

Dr. Flock spent 46 years in private practice serving the people and communities of Laramie, Rawlins, Wheatland and Torrington. From house calls to hospital rooms, Dr. Flock cared deeply for his patients. He dedicated his life to providing high quality urological care to the people of southeast Wyoming. He loved his work, patients and colleagues very much. His greatest joy was being able to help patients heal and feel better.

Dean was a devout Christian. He enjoyed being outdoors and spent many days gardening, farming, fishing, hunting, horseback riding and rafting. He was an avid Huskers, Cowboys and Rockies fan with a thirst for a good glass of wine. Dean was committed to his physical fitness; played handball, lifted weights and always ran stairs.

Dearest Flock Family; My condolences to all of you. Although I did not know Dr Flock for very long, he definitely left his print on my heart. In the short time I spent with him, he talked to me about the importance of not letting life get the best of you and make sure to take time with your family because life is to short and you don’t want to leave it having regrets or wishing you did more. That is something that will stick with me forever. I pray you all find comfort during this difficult time.
