Thomas Erwin Gossett

Thomas Gossett, 85, of Laramie, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on November 27th, 2025, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

A Life Well-Built

Tom was born on January 18, 1940, in Billings, MT, to Harold and Lorna Gossett. He was a man of integrity, known for his dry humor, quiet wisdom, and tireless dedication to his family and the infrastructure of the state he loved.

He began his distinguished career with the Wyoming State Highway Department as a Surveyor. His meticulous nature and deep understanding of the land were evident on projects like building the current I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne. He proudly worked his way up the ranks, eventually retiring after 30 years of service as the Finals Engineer, a role critical to ensuring the precision and quality of countless state projects. He truly built a better Wyoming for those who traveled its roads.

Family and Legacy

Above all, Tom was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Beverly; his two sons, Kol and Karl (Beth); Bev’s daughters, Teresa, Becky (Tim), and Tammy; and two grandchildren, Gus and Grace. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellie, with whom he had been married for 37 years.

His greatest joys were rooted in the Wyoming outdoors. He was an avid golfer, playing well into his 70s, and playing primarily with clubs he built himself. He instilled in his sons a lifelong passion for nature, often taking them hiking and fishing in the spectacular granite outcrops of Veedauwoo and in the Snowies in the Medicine Bow National Forest. Winters were spent snowmobiling or driving his children to ski areas (a testament to his dedication, as he didn’t ski himself). A talented and practical craftsman, he proudly built the family home where countless happy memories are still being made.

Service Information

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laramie, WY, where Tom was a long-time member. The interment of ashes will take place during a private ceremony at Green Hill Cemetery in Laramie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Trinity Lutheran Church.
