Robert “Bob” Miech

Robert Miech, 81, of Laramie died on July 7, 2017 Robert F. (Bob) Miech lost his battle with cancer. Bob was born July 2, 1936 in Sheridan Wyoming to Mike and Hedwick (Krezelok) Miech of Ulm Wyoming.

Bob spent his youth at Ulm going to school through the 8th grade in a one room school house. After 8th grade he moved to Sheridan, living with an elderly lady, working for his room and board in order to finish his high school education. Summers he worked on ranches and one summer he worked on the railroad. He graduated from Sheridan High and went on to Sheridan Community College. While attending Sheridan College he worked at the Artic Locker where he learned to cut meat, a trade that he fell back on many times over the years.

On October 25, 1958 Bob married Gayle Rolston from Big Horn, Wyoming.  Their first child Charles (Chuck) was born in June of 1959 in Sheridan.  Bob continued working at the locker plant for another year, then off to Laramie to continue his education at the University of Wyoming. He worked many part time jobs to support his family while attending school.  Their daughter Leslie was born in August of 1962 in Laramie.

Bob sold insurance for Farm Bureau for 10 years. He bought the ranch in Bosler in 1970 and once again worked more than one job. He leased Wagonhound 1975-1978 where he grazed cows and harvested hay. Some of the best years. In 1978 he started to build a Farmers Insurance agency that he sold to his daughter in 2006. Bob attempted retirement many times, going as far as selling the cows, only to proclaim that he flunked retirement and thankfully hadn’t sold the heifers yet.

Bob and Gayle went to Bullhead City, AZ in the winter for several years enjoying the mild weather and Laughlin NV just across the river. They were able to travel in the later years including an Alaskan cruise, a Panama Canal cruise, a South and Central American – Mexican cruise including Machu Picchu in Peru. A trip to Poland with his siblings and their spouses to meet relatives, several fishing trips to Canada with his son, one with his son and 3 grandsons.

Bob was especially proud of his 3 grandsons and their wives, enjoying time spent watching them start their own families. He was thrilled that his great granddaughter, Brighton, was born on his 81st birthday.

Bob never met a stranger, loved children, playing cards, telling jokes and “stirring the pot”.

Bob is survived by his wife Gayle of 58 years, brothers Jim (Marilyn), Don (Mary), sister Pat Halverson (Galen), Brother-In-Law Lyle Rolston (Carolyn) son Chuck (Sheryl), daughter Leslie (Steve Roberts), grandsons Ken (Erin), Andrew (Kate) Cliff (Melissa) and great grandchildren Vince, Emma and Brighton. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the Elks Lodge on July 22 from 4-7 pm.

Memorials can be given to Hospice of Laramie or the Laramie Elks Lodge.

Gayle and family, There are friends and really good longtime friends. Bob was in the latter category with me. We met as freshmen at Sheridan High School and went through many fun times in FFA, judging teams, public speaking etc. We remained good friends thereafter, tho we mostly saw each other every ten years at reunions. We could always just take up where we left off and enjoy each others company. A truly good man. We will miss him. Marge and I send our condolences Our thoughts are with you. Jim and Marge Hamilton

Just mention the name Bob Miech and you'll bring a smile to anyone's face. That was Bob. And if you weren't smiling you were laughing so hard at one of his jokes. This little Italiano (as he would call me) is so lucky to have been Bob's friend for so many years. His upbeat and positive attitude was always with him and he loved life no matter what. My heart goes out to you Leslie and your family. You're going to miss your Dad so much. As all of his friends who loved him will........

Gayle and family, I loved Bob, he ALWAYS had the best jokes in town and could make anyone's day. So many memories, from the day I got my drivers license, 4-H. Sitting in his office behind DQ and than again down on the corner of 4th and Harney. Boy if any of those walls could talk the stories they would tell. Prayer to all of you, may you find peace and comfort in the loving memories of your husband and dad.

Dear Mrs. Miech and family, Bob made my days in Laramie going to UW more like "home". I always enjoyed playing gin with Bob and an occasional poker game. He was a gentleman in both and didn't fleece me to bad :). The picture that you have used for this obituary couldn't have been better. It has I have always thought of him him and how I will always remember him. Blessings, Wes Worden Sheridan WY

Dear Gayle, Leslie , Chuck and Family, I am greatly sadden to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was very influential in my career choice, as he is the first insurance agent I worked for. He taught me so very much about hard work, determination and how truly rewarding life Is! He taught me to work hard and to play hard. He taught me about how important it is to love your family and friends and to love them deeply!!! Through the time I worked for him and the years after we would share with me about his true love for his family! He radiated with great pride when he spoke of his grandsons and the love for each of them that he had was remarkable! I am truly blessed for having had Bob as not only my mentor but my friend!!!
