Richard Foster

Richard Warren Foster

January 17, 1946 – August 10, 2025

Richard Warren Foster, 79, of Laramie, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

Born in Laramie on January 17, 1946, to Bob and Rosemary Foster, Richard lived a life full of hard work, laughter, and devotion to the people and animals he loved. At just 15 years old, he left school to begin working at a gas station, already showing the grit and determination that would define his life. A few years later, he met the love of his life, Mary Foust of Cheyenne, and together they began a journey that would span nearly 61 years of marriage.  The two were proudly married in Cheyenne at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on September 5th, 1964.

Richard and Mary’s adventure took them from Wyoming to Kansas City, Missouri, where they welcomed their two sons, Sean and Patrick, before returning home to Laramie to put down deep roots. Over the years, Richard poured his heart into many pursuits — running his own auto repair shop, working with his family at Foster’s, Inc., spending time at the Monolith cement plant, and later opening MARS Electric, a business he ran with pride. A self-taught master of all trades, he could fix, build, or repair just about anything — and often did, for anyone who asked.

Outside of work, Richard was an avid numismatist and a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He had a deep love for animals, who seemed to love him right back. His backyard oasis became a sanctuary for birds, squirrels, cats, and any creature in need. In retirement, he could often be found in his sunroom, watching a game, enjoying the peaceful view, and trading his signature witty comebacks and ornery smiles with friends and family.

Richard’s presence lit up a room — his twinkling eyes and easy laughter made people feel at home. He was generous to a fault, dependable in all things, and loved without reservation. His devotion to his family and the friendships he built over a lifetime will be remembered by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mary M. Foster; sons Sean C. Foster (Stacey) and Patrick F. Foster; grandchildren Garett Foster, Ariana Foster, Madison Foster, Alysha Ellis, and Kolton Denham;  great-grandchildren Vyretta, Sophya, and Edwin Jr. Leathers, as well as his niece Rosemary Foster and her son, Sean Foster and his nephews Bob and Fred Henze, and Warren and Michael Edwards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rosemary Foster; his brother Robert Foster; and his sisters Sheila Henze and Sharon Edwards.

Per his wishes, Richard will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where friends and loved ones will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of a life well lived.

We were sorry to hear of Richards passing. What a character! He and Sean did such a nice job on our kitchen remodel. Never any problems. We also loved the Chiefs. Used to see him out and about in his Chiefs garb. He always had a witty comment about different situations! Go with God Richard. Gail & Randy Clark

Such a lovely story told of Richard’s path through life. I did not know him well, however I was always impressed with his willingness to do the work others wouldn’t, his persistence in chasing it down, his fairness and how I came to understand his role in a family I came to appreciate through Mary’s stories. His presence is one that will be missed by many in this community and beyond. My deepest sympathies on his passing and on your loss.

  • Terry Foster/Leal

Richard, may he rest in peace. I haven’t seen him since I lived in Laramie and all the Foster’s would get together in a 2 room cabin with outhouse in Woods Landing Jelm Mountain. I loved my Foster family. We had a lot of fish fries and family reunions up at the cabin. One big happy family. I am Terry Foster and my dad was Ralph Foster. Love and prayers to Mary and family. I’m so sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. I remember coming behind him on projects and seeing the way he ran Romex in his electrical panels- as simple as it seems, he took time and pride in the simple things- indicative of the time and pride he took in the big things. A true craftsman- just like my dad. We are all better for having known him!

May he rest in peace, free of his body's earthly limitations that wrested essential air from him. I know he loved his family, his cats, his coin collection and his sunroom where his family lived. Keep those memories close to your heart. Many are the times that his father Bob, Richard and/or his son Sean were called to make repairs at my houses. He was reliable, always pointing out my options, then getting the job done. Thanks for the decades of work, Richard.
