Christopher John Stimson

Christopher John Stimson, a lifelong Wyomingite with a deep love for the outdoors and a knack for hands-on creation, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, at Hospice of Laramie in Laramie, Wyoming. He was 70 years old.

Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on October 14, 1954, Chris spent the vast majority of his life immersed in the Laramie community and the surrounding natural beauty he cherished. His life was marked by a strong work ethic and a diverse range of professional pursuits. He began his career as a carpenter apprentice, contributing to a project in Worland, Wyoming. He then served the University of Wyoming as a Custodian for the Physical Plant before working for Walmart in Laramie. Demonstrating his adaptability and love for the open road, Chris trained as a long-haul truck driver, working for Werner and later for Laramie Trusses. His trucking career also took him to Carlin, Nevada, where he hauled ore for a mining company. Upon returning to Laramie, he continued his work as a driver for Alsco.

Outside of his work, Chris’ true passions lay in the Wyoming wilderness. He was an avid outdoorsman who embraced downhill skiing, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, backpacking, shooting, and reloading. Hunting season was a highlight each year, with bow hunting being his favorite. He found immense satisfaction in the challenge, notably achieving a successful elk hunt with a recurve bow. When not in the mountains or by the stream, Chris enjoyed the camaraderie of playing pool at the Cowboy and Mingles bars.

A skilled craftsman, Chris delighted in planning and executing projects for his home and other interests. He possessed a remarkable ability to work with wood, metal, concrete, and various materials, bringing his ideas to life.

Chris also held a profound love for animals, extending to dogs, cats, crows, foxes, Canada geese, and all Wyoming wildlife. His bond with his faithful cat, Willard, was especially deep. In a testament to this bond and thanks to the compassionate care of Hospice of Laramie, Willard was able to be by his side during his passing, bringing him comfort in his final moments. Chris will be remembered for many reasons, among them his stories about situations and animals he encountered and his sense of humor.

Chris is survived by his adopted son, Luke Stimson. Luke was a source of great joy for Chris. They shared many interests including the love of nature and animals. Chris enjoyed passing his skills and knowledge to Luke. Chris was proud of Luke’s work ethic and determination. He is also survived by his former spouse, Christine Stimson, Luke’s mother.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theron “Skip” Stimson; his mother, Patricia Stimson; and his brother, Scott Stimson.

In accordance with Chris’ wishes, cremation has taken place. His son, Luke, will disburse his ashes at a place special to them in the Snowy Range. A remembrance and memorial gathering for Chris will be held at Barber Lake; the date and time will be announced. Donations may be made in Chris name to Laramie Animal Welfare Society (LAWS).
