Gregorita “Gogi” Cortez Knowlton

Gregorita “Gogi” Knowlton, 70, of Middleboro, MA, passed away on July 19, 2021 after a strong and brave battle with leukemia. She was born on August 16, 1950 to Juan Ignacio and Ofelia (Martinez) Cortez in Taos, New Mexico.

She grew up in Laramie, WY where she graduated from Laramie High School and the University of Wyoming in 1975 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. On August 23, 1975 she married John Knowlton in Laramie, WY. They moved to Massachusetts in 1983 where they raised their two children, Brett and Krista.

Gogi was a talented artist with a colorful, bold, and bright personality. Her beautiful smile would light up a room and her laugh would fill your heart. She loved to crack a joke or play a prank, especially on her children when they were young. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her home in Middleboro, visiting her family out west, traveling to new places, and making new friends along the way.

Her skills and interests were endless. Gogi was a brilliant gardener, making the most beautiful flower arrangements with her bounty. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, crossword puzzles, and HGTV. She loved to dance to country music, play shuffleboard with her friends at the Elks Club, and attend live concerts. A mother, sister, teacher, friend, beekeeper’s wife, matriarch, the brightest light.

She is survived by her husband, John; her sister Teri (Pat) Weber of Broomfield, CO; her brothers John Cortez and Jose “Tabby” Cortez of Cheyenne, WY and Ruben Cortez of Laramie, WY; and her children Brett Knowlton of Middleboro, MA and Krista Knowlton of Boston, MA.

I remember Gogi fondly in high school with our shenanigans in art class and club trips to Denver art museum. Had not seen her since until I briefly lived in lander, Wy in 1981.....where she and John were owners /proprieters of their own liquor store. And after a few months of catching up--with much humor and wit....which she possessed and made me ( a cynic of outlandish size...) howl in laughter--they just up and told me of their leaving for Boston to do yet another package store. Never saw her again, but I still see her now and smile of her memory of such frank, pointed, sassy-and sometimes sardonic-....GREAT humor. God love her. ralph johnson jr
