Zebulon David Gladney

Zebulon David Gladney, 34, of Laramie, Wyoming passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins, Colorado.  He was born on August 22nd, 1989 in Champaign/ Urbana, Illinois to George and Grace (Blowers) Gladney.

Zeb spent his childhood in the Laramie, Wyoming area, playing cowboys and Indians, jumping on trampolines, playing legos, questing like Zelda, daydreaming of being 007, and endeavoring in “country kid” shenanigans. In 2008, Zeb graduated from high school in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.  He loved skating and golfing and skiing. He shredded Snowy Range and Steam Boat powder, finessing dense forests, bombing groomers — his form fluid, second nature. During high school, he also spent time volunteering for the local fire department and working at an after school program where he was adored by kids. After Zeb came back to Laramie, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and graduated at the top of his class from the police academy.  He was named Honor Grad, the highest honor the academy presents to a student from WLEA.

Zeb then served as a deputy at the Albany County Sheriff’s office for over seven years.

He was responsible for the largest cash seizure in Wyoming state history.  His expertise on a snowmobile was instrumental in several successful search and rescue operations during dangerous winter storms.  He engaged in countless calls for service—domestic disturbances, crashes, civil disputes, vehicular pursuits—and he personally arrested 109 individuals.  In addition, he was a go-to Field Training Officer, Tactical Medicine Instructor, Certified Crisis Intervention Team member, and the recipient of multiple awards for saving lives.  Zeb’s exceptional communication skills and caring instinct would frequently be called upon by other deputies to de-escalate tense situations.

Zeb found tranquility in the mountains — camping, fishing, and lounging around campfires with his friends and family.  He cherished being around water; captaining houseboats on lake Powell, waterskiing, and taking vacations to the beach.  Cooking for friends and family was one of Zeb’s favorite pass times, a way he showcased his strong heart, prioritizing loved ones, making sure they felt content and safe.  His dedication to his marriage and love for his wife was admirable. His big brother instinct was immense. He adored his mother and father, and cherished his step dad’s friendship. For all of us who had the pleasure of being part of his grand adventure, we will remember his immeasurable charisma and especially miss his ability to love and be loved.

Zeb is survived by his wife, Paige Leanna Johnson, mother, Grace Blowers, younger brothers Bridger Roy Gladney and Boone Jackson Gladney.

Zeb’s funeral will be held on May 11, 2pm, at First Baptist Church.

Zeb was a wonderful young man and full of life. Zeb's personality and laugh was pleasant and welcomed by all that knew him and called him friend. Zeb left us all way too soon but his memory and kindness will be with those of us who knew him. Whenever you talked to him it was a guarantee that laughter and joy was coming to your day, that's what he will be remembered for. Though we didn't wear the same uniform it was still an absolute pleasure to work side by side with Zeb, he was more proactive than most and I felt safe knowing he was working and would be my backup as I rarely had a shift partner. Zeb you are missed and will be missed by everyone. Our Condolences to Paige and the Gladney family.

Zeb, This world will never be the same without your wonderful presence to make it brighter. You sir, are so missed. It really hasn't sunk in to that you're not here anymore. My food buddy, salsa doesn't have the same excitement anymore. Hugs and love to Bridger, Boone, and Paige.

To read this account of Zeb’s life brought tears and smiles. I can so remember my boys playing outdoors at the Gladney home, on that crazy yellow slide that was hanging over the side of a hill! That yard was a kid paradise and my boys loved the times they could hang out and “be boys”. I also remember the time our two families went camping together. It was a great weekend of fishing, campfire talks and watching boys run around with stick “guns”. Our hearts, sympathy and prayers go out to you, Grace, Bridger and Boone and to all those who feel the loss of this special young Man. Mike and Jenny Schilt

I am heartbroken for the loss of Zeb. My deepest sympathy to his family and all those that loved him. He was a kind and compassionate soul. A friend told me that he was one of the few law enforcement officers that could calm down people who were in bad situations. His compassion and caring nature will always be remembered. I will never forget him. RIP dear Zeb. Until we meet again ❤️

I first met Zeb as a student in a class I taught at the University of Wyoming. My first impression was what an amazing young man. Zeb came to us as an intern and continued to impress all who worked with him. When I hired Zeb as a deputy, I think I was happier than he was! Over the years, I have hired many law enforcement professionals. Some good, some very good, and some not so much. Zeb took it to another level. Zeb and I communicated several times after I retired. I always felt better after we talked. Zeb just had that effect on me and others. My heart felt condolences to Zeb’s loved ones. Take some comfort in the notion that love and memories live on. I miss you young man. You made me a better person. Dave O’Malley

I’ll never have a friend like Zeb again. Men like him are disappearing. He was the definition of a proactive law enforcement officer. When the phrase “ Laramie, 539 in service” was heard over the radio, we knew it was going to be a great night. He served with the utmost pride, passion and distinction. He always fought for what was right, challenged those who had evil intent and never hesitated to drop what he was doing to lend a hand if someone needed him. His infectious laugh and exuberant personality always lightened any mood. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and caring that will never be surpassed. I miss him more than I can put into words. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask.

There are no words to adequately express my sadness and heartbreak over Zeb's passing. He lived both his professional and personal life with passion, honor, integrity and compassion. When I worked at Loaf n Jug before its closing he would always stop by extra so we could chat and catch up. Three words describe Zeb-- A Class Act. He made our community a better place and will not be forgotten. Thank you SO VERY much to his family for Zeb.
