Robert “Bob” Vincent Baker Jr.

Robert “Bob” Vincent Baker Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully on March 29th, 2026, at Laramie Hospice in Laramie, Wyoming, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Cumberland, Maryland, Bob lived a life characterized by dedication, service, and deep love for his family. He graduated from Blandensburg High School in Landover, Maryland, in 1971, and enlisted in the US Army in December of that same year. This marked the beginning of a distinguished 21-year military career. Bob’s service took him to posts in Germany, Korea, Maryland, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, and Colorado. He was deployed during Desert Storm and also served with the Wyoming National Guard, retiring in 1993. Following his military career, Bob worked in security, as a truck driver, and with the Defense Commissary Agency.

While stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, Bob met his future wife, Jo Anne Kalinay, who was also serving in the US Army. They married in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1978. Together, they welcomed their daughter Angela in 1983 and their son Robert III in 1984. The family spent nearly three decades in Germany before choosing to retire in Laramie, Wyoming.

Bob enjoyed traveling, fishing, UW football and basketball, playing card games, video games, shooting and classic rock music. He was a member of the VFW and the Moose, building lasting friendships and contributing to the community. Bob was known for his friendly nature—he never met a stranger and loved engaging in conversation with everyone he met.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Ester Baker, and his father-in-law, Donald Kalinay.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Anne Kalinay Baker; their children, Angela (Richard) Griffin of Laramie, and Robert of Marysville, Washington; and his grandchildren: Elijah Carter, Kaleb Griffin, Corey Baker-Estright, Bradley and Kayli Griffin (children of Angela and Richard), Lorraine Baker, and Sylvia McWilliams (children of Robert). He is also survived by his sisters, Vicky (Martin) Killingbeck of Winchester, Virginia, and Julie Langley of Port Tobacco, Maryland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, sisters in law and brothers in law. Bob’s legacy of kindness, service, and devotion lives on in his family and all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.

Graveside services will be held on June 24th, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Cheyenne National Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming, with full military honors. A celebration of life will follow at the Moose Lodge, 409 South 3rd Street in Laramie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Army Emergency Relief, the Laramie Moose Lodge, or Laramie Hospice.

My little brother, Bobby, was one of a kind human being. His personality made everyone feel good and would help wherever he saw someone in need. Every year, no matter where he was, he would call me on my birthday 🎂! But my birthday is tomorrow, April 8th, and I should be waiting on your call. 💔😥 Love you Bob, and will miss your butt dialed calls when you were trying to call Joanne. Your sister, Julie
