Monty Craig

Monty Craig, 83, of Laramie, passed away on Saturday, March 2, at home with loving family by his side. Cremation has been chosen and there will be no public services.

Monty was born in Bowie, TX on April 18, 1940, to Frank and Myrtle (Overstreet) Craig. He entered the United States Navy in 1961 and faithfully served his country for six years until December of 1967. During his time in the service, Monty served three separate tours in Vietnam as a sailor. Most of his stories came from his experience on the USS Hancock.

Following Monty’s military service, he lived for a short time in Ft. Worth, Tx and studied Animal Husbandry/Agriculture and was working on a ranch. After deciding that life wasn’t for him, Monty decided he would become a professional pipeliner and that’s what he did for the remainder of his working career. This profession took him across the nation, spending time in many different parts of the country. Monty even participated in the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska, something he was proud to have been a part of. Monty eventually settled and lived out his retirement years in Laramie with the love of his life, Vonna (Fennel) Craig. The couple also had 6 children who Monty was incredibly proud of and later would be blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Monty spent a lot of time woodworking and was gifted in leather work as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Monty is survived by his wife Vonna, 6 children and numerous grandchildren, as well as many great grandchildren.
