Lois Gertrude (Green) Hiller

Lois Gertrude (Green) Hiller was born on November 29, 1925 in Findlay, Ohio to Clark Frederick Green and Gertrude Grace (Kibler) Green and entered eternal life, surrounded by family members, at age 99 years in Lawrence, Kansas. She spent her early years in north central Ohio before moving with her parents and two brothers (one her twin) and sister to Greeley, Colorado. They then moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where she graduated from high school. Lois attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minnesota. She became a parish worker and then met and married Edward John Hiller, a pastor at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in North Star, Ohio. Four children were born to their union: Miriam (Francis) Johnson of Morrilton, AR, ; Paul (Saundra) Hiller of Overbrook, KS; Sarah (Dennis) Schiermeyer of Superior, NE; Rhoda (John) Burrows of Rapid City, SD. Lois was a loving and devoted wife and mother and friend to many.

Pastoral calls over the years moved the family to several states including Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio and North Dakota. Lois served in a variety of ways: visiting parishioners, leading women’s Bible studies, assisting in church secretarial responsibilities, and training VBS teachers.

Upon retirement, Lois and Edward moved to Laramie, Wyoming, becoming active members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Lois was a member of the Laramie Women’s Club, the Lois Club and a dominoes playing group. She volunteered at Ivinson Memorial Hospital for several years. She enjoyed bird watching, hiking and cross-country skiing in the Snowy Range. A talented artist, Lois enjoyed acrylic and watercolor painting including Norwegian rosemaling.

After Edward’s death in 2018, Lois remained in Laramie until June 2024 when she moved to Lawrence, Kansas to be near her children.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, three siblings, and her husband Edward.

She is survived by four children, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whose visits, calls and letters she enjoyed.

Funeral services will be at Trinity Lutheran Church in Laramie, Wyoming with Pastor Nathan Keith officiating on Friday, March 28, at 10:00 a.m., with viewing at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Greenhill Cemetery, Laramie, with luncheon after at Trinity.

Memorials suggested via Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home to Samaritan’s Purse or Trinity Lutheran Church.
