John Damian Munari

John D. Munari, 60, passed away July 18, 2026 in Phoenix, AZ.

John was born September 1, 1965 in Laramie, WY to Anton and Winona Munari, one of six children. He attended St. Laurence School, grades 1-6, then entered the public school system and graduated from LHS in 1983. While in high school, he enjoyed playing the trumpet in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Stage Band. He also sang in the Plainsmen Singers, and one of his highlights, was performing in the school musical Godspell.

In 1984, John was formally accepted to attend Conception Seminary in St. Joseph, Missouri. After his second year, he decided to return to Laramie to explore the possibility of a degree at the University of Wyoming. He soon decided he wanted to pursue and focus on a more technical degree in which he enrolled and graduated from a local business school CBM (Computer Business Management) in 1988.

John became particularly drawn to the hospitality world and ventured down to Phoenix, AZ in 1989 to work at a luxurious resort called the Wigwam. He chose to work there during the winter months and go north up to Jackson Hole during the summers to work at several elegant hotels, one being the Jackson Lake Lodge.

Staying in the hotel industry, John settled in Phoenix to utilize his business management skills. He took the opportunity to work at the front desk of several up-scale hotels, and later he accepted a position with the AIG Insurance Claims Agency, in which he was employed for several years.

In 2003, John was diagnosed with tumors on his back. Even after several surgeries, he struggled with chronic pain and permanent disability. This led to several physical and mental needs he coped with every day. It was a very difficult time in his life. His parents and family made every effort to help him, offering years of support and encouragement hoping he would accept the guidance and help that he needed.

In October 2022, John agreed to relocate to Cody, WY to live with his brother Larry and wife Alice. They provided a place of refuge, helping him reestablish everyday living patterns, finding a place to live, all in a loving environment away from the big city. John was able to spend time visiting his family now, as they were closer and all in Wyoming. He stayed in Cody for (11) months but eventually chose to return to Phoenix, where he passed away later. His family now has comfort of knowing that he is finally at peace.

John’s passing preceded the death of his father Anton, who died twelve days later, on July 30, 2026. He is survived by his mother Winona of Laramie, brothers Anthony (Tami) of Laramie, Mark (Laura) of Cheyenne, Larry (Alice) of Cody, sister Gena Munari of Laramie, and brother Mike (Tonya) of Casper, all in Wyoming.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie, WY. Inurnment will follow the service at Greenhill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Wyoming Rescue Mission in Casper, WY through their website: www.wyomission.org/donate

Winona, Tony, Mark, Larry, Gena, and Mike, I am so sorry to hear of your recent double loss of Anton and John. I always enjoyed visiting with Anton over the years. He was such a friendly guy and I'll remember him that way. I didn't get the chance to talk to John much, but I have so many good memories of you all. You are such a lovely family. I'm sorry that I couldn't be at Anton's service and will miss John's service because of out-of-town obligations. I just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you all and sending my love. Nancy
