Jim Gordon Murdock

Jimmy Gordon Murdock, 77, of Laramie, WY passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 27th,2018.  He was born on June 13th, 1940 to Herbert and Norene (Anderson) Murdock.   He was a beloved husband, father and friend.  Jim joined the Navy at the age of seventeen where he worked on the flight deck as an aircraft mechanic. During his service he met Elnora and they married in Pensacola, FL on January 12th, 1961.  Jim and Elnora moved to Laramie in 1967 where they had two children Brenda and Herbert.  They lived west of town on a family property where they all currently live today because of the love Jim had for his family.

Jim worked at the Wyoming Highway Department from 1967-1995. After retiring from the state he worked for J&G Wholesale delivering fireworks throughout the state of Wyoming. Loving the drive and everything the state had to offer Wyoming provided a perfect backdrop for an avid sportsman. From small game to big game, Jim loved everything about the sport even learning to reload his own bullets.  Jim was able to pass on his love of the game to his son Herbert in which they shared many memories together. He was fortunate enough to take a once in a lifetime hunting trip to Alaska with his best friend Tom, one of his favorite experiences.

Jim was always more than willing to lend a hand and his passion for life could always put a smile on someone’s face.  In his early life he frequently helped out at the Lloyd Ranch and later with the Garson family.  His lifetime friendship with Bobby created a love for cars and a real love of solving the world’s problems. Anyone that had an enthusiasm for vehicles Jim was thrilled to meet, and Scott was another motor head that shared his excitement.

Jim touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Jim is preceded by his parents, Herbert and Norene (Anderson) Murdock.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years Elnora Murdock of Laramie, daughter Brenda Schriner (Scott Giroux) of Laramie and son Herbert Murdock (Cindy Deford) of Laramie; grandson Ron Schriner Jr. and wife Anne of Laramie; great grandchildren Reese Olson, Emery Schriner, and Ezra Schriner.  He is also survived by his siblings, Ray Murdock of Laramie; Diane Rogers of Florida; son in law Ron Schriner Sr. Uncle Les Murdoch and Aunt Phyllis Murdoch and family  of Texas;  in addition to his childhood friend Bob Nelson, travel buddy, Tom Henley, and his ranch buddy Jack Garson.  Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm Saturday, May 5th 2018 at the Eppson Center for Seniors with Military Honors by the United States Navy and the Laramie Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Folds of Honor Foundation, 18551 N 125th E Ave. Owasso, OK 74055.

Sending prayers to friends and family of Jim. I will certainly miss the conversations and laughter that I would share with him whenever he came to visit the pharmacy. He always had a smile on his face and I couldn’t help but do the same. Jim made my day better every time I saw him, and I can’t help but think from reading the other comments, that he did the same for so many others! You’ll be missed Jim!

A big piece of my life is now missing! A frend like Jim with his quick to laugh demeanor took a great portion of my happiness with him. I was so fortunate to have had a friend, a great friend for over four decades. When the Angles do come for me, little doubt that Jim will be amongst them returning the smiles, laughter and my happiness. God bless you Jim.
