It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Harold James “Jim” Bowlds, who passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Hospice in Laramie, Wyoming.
Born in Livingston, Montana, on April 15, 1948, Jim lived a life defined by service to his country and a deep love for the ranching traditions of the West. After serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, he returned to his roots in Clyde Park, Montana, to work on the family ranch.
Jim was a devoted family man, married to his late wife Cathy for 51 years, and a proud father and grandfather. His legacy remains in the Shields Valley of Montana and with his family in Wyoming.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman and hunter: He enjoyed time spent in nature. He was a hands-on person, with interests in reloading ammunition and doing leatherwork. Whether it was horseback riding and Special Olympics events with Libby, or various sporting events for his sons and grandchildren, he was a constant, supportive presence in their lives. His time spent hunting and in the outdoors likely provided many of the stories and memories his family will cherish.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cathy; and his sister, Libby. Survived by his sons Randy (Angela) Bowlds and Scott (Amanda Sullivan) Bowlds; and daughter Libby Bowlds. Grandchildren Dominik Trenchard, Christopher Bowlds, Brody Bowlds, Brecklyn Sullivan, and Bryson Sullivan. Brothers Mark (Laurie) and Emil ‘E.J.’ (Carrie).
Our family is so grateful to the loving medical care given to Jim by the staff and nurses at the Hospice in Laramie.
Services to be held at a later date.

Deepest sympathy to the family. It was a pleasure getting to know Jim and Cathy. Always enjoyed our camping trips with them both. Rest in peace Jim. The heinrich’s
