Frances Ruth (Warren) Velez

Frances died at the age of 85 February 22, 2025. She was born in La Junta, Colorado on February 11, 1940, and passed in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Prior to death she lived in Laramie for the last nine years with her niece and nephew, John and Kathy Skarin.

Frances was born at home and was the second of five children. She attended primary school in La Junta, Colorado where she had many recognitions for her musical abilities during high school. After High School, she attended nursing school in California, studying in the mornings and working in the afternoons. After graduating from nursing school, she continued to work as a nurse in California where she met her husband, Filipe Velez. After several years living and working in California, they moved to Gainesville, Florida, where she worked for the VA as a nurse until she retired. She had no children of her own, unless you count her beloved dogs. Several years after her husband died, she moved to Laramie, Wyoming, living with niece and nephew (John and Kathy Skarin). Frances was a member of the Community of Christ as well as a member in good standing of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was loved by many, and she loved her family and dogs. She also loved to read and always had a book in her hands or nearby.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband Filipe Velez and her parents, Bertha and Mattie Warren, her older brother, William Warren and younger sister Mollie DeMartio, one nephew, Tom Warren. She is survived by her sister Anna Love and brother John Warren, three nieces, 1 nephew and their families.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home in Laramie, Wyoming- 2133 Rainbow Avenue.

Following the Memorial Service, there will be a picnic at Washington Park, since she loved picnics and wanted those close to her to enjoy a picnic in her honor.

    I'm so sorry for your loss. Francis was such a lovely lady and so pleasant to be around. She was determinted and headstrong and thats certainly an admirable quality. The Laramie Nurse Honor Guard would consider it a priviledge to honor her at her service in June to recognize her contribution and dedication to nursing if the family would like.
