Everett Wesley “Spike” Spackman, 100, of Laramie, Wyoming passed away peacefully just after midnight on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Hospice of Laramie. He was born on March 5, 1925, in Fullerton, Nebraska, to Edmond Paul and Garnet (Weeks) Spackman. On December 18, 1949, he married his college sweetheart, Eunice Erdene Spackman, in Akron, Colorado. Together, they raised four sons and built a life rooted in love, service, and community.
Over the years, Everett and Eunice lived in Fort Collins, CO; Lincoln, NE; and Cheyenne, WY before settling in Laramie, where he spent the past 56 years. Everett proudly served his country in both World War II and the Korean War. He enlisted the day after High School Graduation in the U.S. Navy in 1944, serving as Yeoman 3rd Class in San Diego until 1946. He continued his service in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1948 to 1952, including active duty aboard the USS Guadalupe, an oil tanker operating in the Yellow Sea during the Korean War.
His professional career began in 1954 with the Wyoming State Department of Agriculture, where he worked as an entomologist in the grasshopper control program. After earning his Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska, he became the State Entomologist. In 1969, Everett joined the University of Wyoming as Extension Entomologist, assisting ranchers and residents with insect-related concerns and helping establish the mosquito control program west of Laramie. Everett was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Genealogical Society, the Square Dance Club, and the Laramie Garden Club. He and Eunice helped found Highland Presbyterian Church in Cheyenne and were longtime members of United Presbyterian Church in Laramie, where Evertt remained active for 56 years.
Above all, Everett valued his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found joy in woodworking, yardwork, cheering on Cowboy football and Cowboy/Cowgirl basketball, traveling, and attending his children’s activities. Despite a busy schedule, he never missed a swim meet.
Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice, his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his four sons: Lowell K. Spackman (Susan) of Laramie, Michael E. Spackman of Laramie, Daniel E. Spackman (Kelli) of Red Lion, PA, and Curtis A. Spackman of Laramie. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Trent D. Spackman (Bridget) of York, PA, Troy C. Spackman of Red Lion, PA, Nicholas K. Spackman of Laramie, and Corissa S. Spackman of Laramie; and two great-grandchildren: Ian and Blaine Spackman of York, PA, and also one sister, Ruth from Aurora, NE.
In keeping with his generous spirit, Everett donated his body to the Colorado State Anatomical Board for medical research and education. A memorial service will be held at United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Everett’s name to: United Presbyterian Church, 215 South 11th Street and Hospice of Laramie, 1754 Centennial Drive.
Everett was a great person that I enjoyed through the years. As members of the genealogical society I became friends with him and Eunice. Both of them were very special people!

I was a automotive tech in the UW auto shop when i first met Spike,when he came to check out an ag vehicle. Then after transferring over to the landscape dept. i had to train for an chemical applicators license. Spike was the absolute best instructor there. He was captivating,interesting and entertaining and fun! A Great Gentleman,who will be missed by many! Please except my sincere condolences.

Bernard J. Kolp Spike and Eunice were friends of Jean and I for years. We spent lots of hours at coffee. Spike and I played a lot of golf, the score did not matter, just a Wyoming morning and lots of talk.
