Erik Porter Rundberg

Erik Porter Rundberg was born on January 24th, 1983, into the loving arms of his parents Penny and Daryl Rundberg in Ogden, Utah, the second of three children. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Erik unexpectedly passed away on Monday, September 4th, 2023, in his home in Laramie, Wyoming from sepsis. From the time he could walk and talk, there wasn’t an acquaintance Erik couldn’t turn into a friend. The help that most would give to a friend, Erik would give, and more, to anyone he knew needed help.

Erik graduated from Laramie High School and went on to study at the University of Wyoming. Prior to completing a degree, Erik welcomed his son Charles “Charlie” on what was one of the happiest days of his life. From the time of his birth, Charlie was a part of everything Erik did. The two shared a very special bond as father and son, one that was rooted heavily in a sense of humor that Charlie inherited from his dad. There were constant belly laughs shared between them before Charlie could understand the words Erik was saying. Charlie and Erik were joined at the hip for everything including camping, fishing, working Erik’s gold claim together, and many other adventures.

Erik continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology, graduating in the spring of 2019. He was proud to walk across the stage, diploma in hand, while Charlie and the rest of his family cheered from the stands. During his studies, he discovered a passion for gold prospecting and mining.

Erik worked for two gold mines in Colorado before striking out to open and operate his own gold mine, under the name of his company Elemental Mining and Exploration, Inc. It was an active and passionate pursuit of his up until his passing. Additionally, Erik and Nels Soderberg co-founded GI Gold with the aim to support veterans through learning about gold prospecting and employing the skills learned in the field. As a bonus, those involved would spend plenty of time outside in the beautiful Wyoming mountains. Naturally, Charlie was right there with them.

Erik is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving family including son, Charlie, parents Daryl and Penny, sister Mariah Learned (James, Kili, and Kinli) and brother Christian.

A viewing will take place on Tuesday, September 12th from 6:00-7:00 pm at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held in the LDS Stake Center on Hayford Ave at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 13th

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charlie’s college fund. Checks may be made payable to Charles Rundberg and sent to Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home, 2133 E Rainbow Ave Laramie, Wyoming 82070.
