Edith W. Hirsch

Edith W. Hirsch passed away on March 5, 2024, at Ivinson Memorial Hospital, in Laramie, Wyoming, surrounded by her family.

Edith was Born March 12, 1946, in Petersburg, Virginia, to Earl & Emily Ellis.  She attended Highschool in Petersburg where she loved art and music.  She attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she met her husband Colonel Fred H. Hirsch on a blind double date.  As they say the rest was history, the United States Air Force moved them to the Rocky Mountain West where they fell in love with the mountains and open spaces and decided to raise their family.

Edith worked for many years as a civilian support staff and office administrator with the Airforce. But everyone who knew her knows her number one job was that of a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver.

Edith loved history and exploring the west with her husband in their RV in her later years.  Exploring the history of the Oregon Trail, Lewis and Clark, Native cultures, and the settlement of the west.  She loved cooking for her family and exploring new recipes.

She is survived by her children, Fred Hirsch, Emily Hirsch, Jennifer (George) Brook, Kristian Hirsch, grandchildren, Zachary Hirsch, Aidan Hirsch, and Billy Brook, her sisters, Heath Thompson, Elizabeth (Bo) Kail, Julia (Kelly Williamson) Ellis, and brother Francis Ellis.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Earl Ellis

A joint memorial service for Edith and her husband Fred will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 20, 2024, with a reception to follow at the Hilton Garden Inn Aspen Room.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that you contribute to the Fred and Edith Hirsch scholarship fund at UniWyo Federal credit union set up for her grandchildren or contribute Easter Seals of Wyoming.

Dear Fred and family, You and Edie have been loving and caring neighbors for over 44 years. When I got Emily's message on Wednesday morning the 6th that her Mom had passed away I was stunned. I'm so sorry your partner through life and such wonderful friends all this time suddenly and unexpectedly left us. I'm thinking of you during this time of tremendous shock and loss. Edie departed at much too young an age. Edie was a loving and caring lady with a beautiful soul and she will be hugely missed by her neighbors not to mention all of you in her family. I wish you, Emily, Jennifer, Fred and Kristian may find solace in the many wonderful family memories that Edie helped create! Peace, Barbara
