Bruce Charles Hooper

Bruce Charles Hooper set down his fly rod, his putter, and his hammer for the last time on Sunday, January 21, 2024, in Laramie, Wyoming.  Born on July 28, 1948, in Spearfish, South Dakota to Richard and Redell (East) Hooper, Bruce was the “middle child” of 7 siblings.

Bruce was a 1966 graduate of Sundance High School and a proud University of Wyoming graduate in 1970 with a degree in Statistics. Following his graduation from UW he took employment there in various departments from 1970 to his final post of Director of Risk Management/Insurance and Environmental Health and Safety, retiring in 2007 to become the Executive Director of Risk and Emergency Management at Arizona State University until leaving in 2015.

Bruce married Diana Duca from 1969 until her passing in 1997 and from that union they had a daughter, Janine. Bruce married Tammy (Hood) Johnson in 2008 until his passing.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard (Suzy) Hooper and David Hooper.

Bruce is survived by his wife Tammy, daughter Janine (Tim) Reinhardt, Tammy’s children Randi Johnson (Matthew Ludlow); Shelby (Todd) Antepenko; Taylor (Kylie) Johnson; grandchildren Brynley Johnson; Haiden, Nolan, Deklyn and Cohen Antepenko; sisters Karol Scott, Jill Hartman, Lisa (Arnie) Griffith; brother Lindsay (Candice Shy) Hooper and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their children.

Bruce was proud of his Crook County roots and the history his family played in settling Wyoming and becoming part of her legacy. He was a lifetime member of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association and the NRA. He never met a fish he didn’t want to snag, a project he wouldn’t try, a round of golf he wouldn’t play or help anyone who needed it.

He will be missed deeply by his loving family and friends and the world was a better place for him being in it.
