Michael Joseph Shoefelt

Michael Joseph Shoefelt, 60, of Laramie, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Ivinson Memorial Hospital.

Michael (Mike) was born June 3, 1960 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Donald and Wilma (Cairns) Shoefelt. Following his birth, his family returned to Laramie where he remained for the rest of his life. Mike graduated from Laramie High School in 1979. Although they graduated high school together, it was not until May 1980 that he began his future life journey with Debra (Debbie) Diehl. He married Debbie on August 9, 1986 in Laramie.

He worked for the City of Laramie, Water/Waste Water Treatment Plant from April 1980 before retiring in November 2014. Mike served in the Wyoming Air National Guard in Cheyenne as a Crew Chief (mechanic) in the helicopter unit, 1982-1988. He enjoyed his family and pets, camping, fishing/hunting, NASCAR, radio-controlled models (helicopters, cars/trucks, boats, and planes), biking, and being a grandfather.

His mother, Wilma, and his younger brother, Curtis, precede Mike in death.

Mike is survived by his wife, Debbie Shoefelt of Laramie; children, Bradley Shoefelt and his wife Destiny of Casper and Ryan Shoefelt and his wife Ashley of Laramie; six grandchildren, Ethan, Jenna, Tayven, and Tieg of Casper and Madison and Kinley of Laramie; father, Donald Shoefelt of Laramie; older brother, Roger Shoefelt and his wife Kathy of Laramie; numerous nieces/nephews; extended family.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life to be held at a future date.

Mike Shoefelt was a great man, kind, thoughtful, and generous to all who knew him. It was always a “feel good” thing when I ran into him. I will miss him.

To the Shoefelt Family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I can only imagine the pain you must have at this time. I remember Mike with fondness, as a student at LHS/Class of 79. Don, I also remember our telephone conversation this past summer which included your heartfelt appreciation for Mike and the help he freely gave to you.
