Kenneth Gerald Sanchez
March 4th, 1953 – December 28th, 2024
Kenneth G. Sanchez passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, December 28th, 2024, in Brighton, Colorado.
Kenny was born on March 4th, 1953, in San Luis, Colorado to Carlos & Otillia (Tilly) Sanchez. He grew up in Laramie, Wyoming and graduated from high school there in 1971. In 1975 he earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Wyoming with studies in psychology. He subsequently attended LaVonnes Academy of Beauty in Denver and graduated with a degree in cosmetology in 1977. For most of his adult life, he lived, worked and played in Denver with brief stints in New York City and San Diego.
Kenny was a successful and meticulous hair stylist with a loyal clientele of 48 years. He was kind and generous with his haircuts and would often reduce or eliminate his fee for clients that fell upon hard times. He always made sure that when you got out of his chair, you not only looked great, but you felt great. On the other hand, if a client exhibited meanness or bigotry, he would promptly dismiss them as he had no tolerance for those behaviors.
Kenny often helped those in need. He always had some cash on hand to give to a homeless person. He would often buy them a meal or give them some warm clothes. He had an amazing sense of style and fashion. He was as meticulous with his home and vehicle as he was with his haircuts, always clean, orderly and beautifully arranged with his personal touch. He loved movies, music, good food and nice clothes.
As a gay man, he fully embraced an exuberant lifestyle. He was handsome, friendly and outgoing. He could easily meet new people and was a consummate match maker. He had an intuitive sense of people and sparked many long-term relationships by introducing the right person to the right person.
He is survived by his close and dear friend, James Fischer of Denver and many friends and colleagues. His sisters Cordy and Phyllis of Laramie, Wyoming and his many beloved nephews, nieces and cousins. He is preceded in death by his older sisters Evelyn and Bonnie and his older brother Charlie.
Kenny will be missed. We can only offer him a great big THANK YOU KENNY for all your love and sweetness. Thank you for being you. Thank you for sharing your sense of beauty.
Kenny’s life will be celebrated in Laramie, Wyoming on Saturday, May 24th.
Interment will be at 10:30 am at Greenhill Cemetery
Celebration to follow at 12 noon at his sister’s home, Phyllis Winder
