Josephine H. Van Cleave

Josephine H. Van Cleave, 94, of Edmonds, WA formerly of Laramie, died March 3, 2022.

She was born in McCall, Idaho to Bryan and Mable Harnden on August 7, 1927. She had four brothers who passed before  her.

She married John R. Van Cleave in 1947 and had two sons, Darald and Gary. Later they divorced.

She lived in Laramie, Wyoming for 78 years. During her years in Laramie, she loved to hunt and fish with her family and do an assortment of crafts with her friends and grandkids.  She was a member of the VFW post 2221. She worked for 15 years as a custodian at the University of Wyoming. During that time, she also helped raise three of her grandchildren.

She moved to Edmonds, Washington to live with her oldest son Darald in 2005 after the passing of her youngest son Gary. During her 16.5 years in Edmonds, she continued her love of crocheting afghans. Once a year at Christmas time she would donate those afghans to the local women’s shelter and the Ronald McDonald house.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Bryan and Mabel, her brothers, Floyd, Bryan Jr (Gerrie), Manford (Marie), Oliver (Emma) Harnden. Her daughter-in-law Cindy Van Cleave and then her son Gary Van Cleave.

She is survived by her son Darald, her grandchildren: Heather (Ryan Hirotaka), Brian (Tara) Van Cleave, Gary Van Cleave, Mary Beth (David) Anderson, Jeff and Joe Van Cleave, her great granddaughters: Aimee Van Cleave, Alissa Crane, Jessica (Matt) McAdams, Elizabeth Crane, Elle Hirotaka, and her sisterĀ­ in-law Betty Harnden and several nieces and nephews.

No funeral will be held but a celebration of life is being planned for this summer.

I am sorry to hear about her passing. She was always so very nice to me and I always had a smile on my face when I saw that she was coming to my office for her appointment. She made me smile. I am sure that she will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
