JD Romsa of Laramie, WY went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2025. Heaven gained one hell of a cowboy.
JD was born on June 6, 1964, in Cheyenne, WY to Larry and Marilyn Romsa, the third of three children. He spent his youth rodeoing and was taught how to appreciate the western way of life which he cherished. His family spent years at the Horse Creek Ranch where he enjoyed ranching and helping his family with cattle for many years. JD and his siblings Candy Hamaker and Todd Romsa were active in the Little Britches Rodeos traveled together to many events which the three participated in.
JD attended elementary schools in Cheyenne and Laramie. He graduated from Laramie High school and attended college at the University of Wyoming participating in the college rodeo team. JD was an amazing athlete in bull riding, bareback riding and football and won a multitude of rodeos in Little Britches and high school rodeos before college.
JD married Beth in 1990, and they raised three amazing sons together, Quade, Lane and Blare Romsa. JD and Beth spent many years traveling to archery tournaments and rodeos, and he couldn’t have been more proud of his sons. JD took special pride and joy in their accomplishments, hard work ethic and commitment to family.
JD followed in his father’s footsteps and began a career as a contractor and built many beautiful homes and subdivisions. He then operated the Ringsby Ranch and spent years teaching his sons cattle ranching with them as his three right hands. The boys learned at an early age the dedication required to be successful in the duties of raising livestock and instilled in them a love for horses. JD’s three sons will carry on his legacy in amazing ways.
JD loved horses and being horseback was his favorite place to be. He worked for Toby and Tyler Kimzey at the Y Cross and Flying Y ranches. He made many good friends there and appreciated every part of the ranch operations.
JD and his family spent many years assisting his father with the Cheyenne Frontier Days parades committee and wagon driver’s. He helped with coordination of teams, drivers and parades until he took over the wagon driver’s contract from his father. The family has enjoyed their CFD involvement with cherished memories of parades, events and all the friends who are considered family over decades of volunteering. His family was inducted into the CFD Hall of Fame in 2024 and JD became a member of the CFD Heels in 2007.
JD enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to playing with his granddaughter Lottie, was proud of another new granddaughter Rula, who was born in February and was expecting another granddaughter in June.
JD is survived by his father Larry, sister Candy Hamaker, brother Todd Romsa; JD’s wife Beth, son Quade Romsa and wife Kimberly Romsa, granddaughters Lottie Romsa and Rula Romsa; son Lane Romsa and wife Toby Romsa; son Blare Romsa and fiancé Gabi Gollhofer. He was preceded in death by his mother Marilyn.
JD’s celebration of life will be Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 3 pm at the Cheyenne Frontier Days events center in Cheyenne, WY. May his memory be a blessing to anyone that knew him. Donations in JD’s honor can be given to Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum or any other association of choice honoring his life.

All of CFD will remember JD and miss him so much. He always drove the general committee’s wive’s wagon for the cattle drive and grand entries, and others. I’ve known his immediate family and extended members for so long, and Susan Romsa Danat is my best friend from many, many years ago. I pray for his sweet family and friends for peace in their hearts. JD will be remembered well. Tammy Johnson and the family of Jim and Tammy Johnson

I have many great memories of JD while we traveled several states to Little Britches and high school rodeos. Sitting in Larry’s motor home between performances. JD would always make you laugh. He was always fun to be around. He was a friend to everyone! Maybe my first memory of JD was when he was on the Sugar Pop commercial when he was just a kid. Everyone thought that was so cool! I saw JD less as an adult but he was always happy to see me when ever we had the chance to meet. Sorry I will miss being at the celebration of life. We will be out of town.

I’d like to offer my deepest condolences for the Romsa family! I’m gonna miss JD smile and his willingness to help a fellow man with anything! My heart goes out to Beth, Lane, Blair, Quade, and the rest of the family. Your husband and father will be truly missed! But as I received word of JD‘s passing the vision that came into my mind is him sitting on his horse in a field of grass overlooking 1000 head of the Lord‘s cattle. ( with that big grin) We will all meet JD again in a place where there is no pain, no sorrow, no tears, but until then we will honor the man and his life here on earth!
