James “Jim” Eugene Johnson

James “Jim” Eugene Johnson, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and faithful friend, peacefully entered eternal life on May 15, 2026 at the age of 89. Jim was born on July 28, 1936, in Sterling, Colorado, to the late Delbert and Margaret Johnson. He was a man of deep faith, strong values, and unwavering devotion to his family. He brought joy, kindness, and laughter to all who knew him.

Jim was a devoted Catholic whose faith guided the way he lived his life. He believed deeply in the importance of family, hard work, humility, and serving others. Whether through quiet acts of generosity, steady encouragement, or the example he set for his children and grandchildren, Jim lived his faith daily and remained grounded in prayer and love throughout his life.

Jim shared 62 years of marriage with the love of his life, Mary Yule (Wolfe) Johnson. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and just the right amount of chaos as they raised their 12 children: Joanne Roelle (Larry), Brenda Branscom (Alan), Vonda Barnes (Don), Mark Johnson (Michelle), Tom Johnson (Patty), Ann Alburn (Craig), Jay Johnson, Diann Wood (Jeff), Teresa McIntyre (Kevin), Mary Johnson, Jennifer Johnson (Dillon), and Rae Thomas (Danny).

Jim was a fun-loving dad and proud grandfather whose greatest joy was his family. His legacy lives on through his 39 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, each of whom was blessed by his love, humor, wisdom, and steady presence.

A graduate of Peetz High School in 1954, Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. Following his military service, he worked for various gas companies throughout his career before retiring from AmeriGas in 2001.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his children; and his siblings, Dorothy Kallweit, Mary Hill, Barb Schnug (Dutch), and Charles Johnson (Kris). He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ginger Fehringer, Janet Willich, and Patricia Volle; his brothers, John, Art, and Bill; and his son-in-law, Alan Branscom.

A Funeral Vigil for James Eugene Johnson will be held at Saint Paul’s Newman Center in Laramie, Wyoming at 6:00pm June 12th. Funeral will be held at Saint Paul’s Newman Center, Saturday June 13th at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, with a reception immediately following at Bishop Newell Hall.

Jim’s family takes comfort in knowing that his strong faith carried him home to the Lord, where he is reunited with his savior and with loved ones who have gone before him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Johnson family, I am sad to hear about Jim’s passing. He was a fixture for all of us within the church community. Whether it was singing Christmas carols or his welcoming smile in the choir loft. One of the friendliest people I knew. My prayers are with you all for comfort and healing in time. Love always, Brian (Shalley, Tayvin and Chase) Aragon
