Harriett Galbraith

Harriett Galbraith passed away peacefully at home this past Saturday with her son, Geof, daughter-in-law, Anita, two dogs Sam and Emile, and cats Ron and Ekaterina by her side.  She was an animal lover and nurse, who touched the lives of many far beyond the local community. As such, it was fitting that she passed away the same moment April the giraffe was giving birth.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Harriett’s name to the Laramie Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 514 Laramie, WY 82073

Harriett was the epitome of everything decent in this world. She lived her life with dignity, grace, kindness, and generosity. She had a brilliant mind and an open heart. She enriched the lives of everyone she touched. To Geof, Anita, and all of her family thank you for sharing her with the rest of us. We are so privileged for her friendship of 42 years. Geof I am so sorry for the loss of your dear mom. I had spoken to her recently and we had a very good visit. I was coming to town and was heading over to visit her when I got the call. I worked with Harriett for many years and enjoyed the time you would come to work with her. I am going to miss her. You take care and I will be keeping you in my prayers.

Geof I was saddened when I saw your mom’s obituary this morning. She was a good neighbor and friend to my mom when she was in her decline and she became a friend of mine as well. I enjoyed our telephone visits. She left on her own terms which sets an example for us all. Take heart knowing what a special person she was and how many people she touched with her kindness and friendship. Barb Walker

Geof – I am sorry to hear of the loss of Harriet, your wonderful mother. She always shared fun stories of you and loved “bragging” about the wonderful “young man” you have become. Hold tight the many memories that you have that bring a smile as those memories will help heal the heart ache you feel today. She will always be with you and the many people she touched. God Bless you and Anita, I am thank for knowing Harriett for many years and the friendship we shared.

We will always remember Harriet for her warm and generous nature, and for her superior cats. I used to joke that when you went to Dr. Coates’s office for an exam, you would likely leave with a kitten. We were fortunate to adopt 2 of Harriet’s kittens through the years-Beeble and John Mewer. John, now 21 years old, is still with us and going strong. He reminds us of Harriet every day.

Harriett & I met in Kindergarten. We were roommates in Nursing School. She was my Maid of Honor at my wedding. Her positive approach to life, sense of humor, common sense, empathy, & loyalty to family & friends were always part of her personality. To Geof, Anita, & her family, I am sorry for your loss & I am keeping you in my thoughts. She will always always hold a place in my heart, & so will all of you.

I met Harriett at Dr. Coates office back in the early 80’s. she became a friend. She took me under her wing and mentored me along with several other young mommies.
