Gaylord “Hertz” Hertzfeldt

Gaylord “Hertz” Hertzfeldt passed away in his sleep on May 23, 2019 at the age of 88. He was born in Arcadia, Wisconsin in 1931, but has lived in Laramie since 1950.

He loved the wonderful experiences he shared with his wife, Elaine, and his daughters on the family ranch.

Hertz served in a leadership role at the Laramie Moose Lodge many years ago and continued to enjoy memorable times at the Moose with friends and family.

Hertz retired from the Laramie Boomerang after a long career, then continued the work he loved as a printer, and later retired from Modern Printing in Laramie.

Hertz was kind to everyone and always helped those who needed it the most.

His wife, Elaine Hertzfeldt preceded him in death in 2006.

He is survived by his two daughters, Brenda Portugal of Laramie and Barbara Roe of Loveland, CO.

Celebration of Life will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m Saturday, June 29th, 2019 at the Laramie Moose Lodge.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Laramie Moose Lodge and/or to the Eppson Center for Seniors, Meals on Wheels Program.

I worked for a number of years with both Hertz and his wife, Elaine at the Boomerang.
Deadline pressure and and “creative differences” sometimes led to confrontations between those of us in the editorial side and those, who like Hertz, worked in the composing room.
But Hertz was a guy who maintained a fairly calm demeanor most of the time, when some did not.
He was a calming influence. That is a rare thing. I appreciated that about Hertz.

Hertz was a wonderful man and I am grateful to have known him. What a wonderful obituary to remember a life well lived by a humble and gracious person.

Your Dad was so much fun. I always had a great time working with him at the Boomerang and visiting him and his tractors! Your Mom and Dad were a great asset to this community and I will always remember them. May sweet memories fill the empty moments that will remain!

I worked many years with “Hertz” at the Boomerang, he in the composing department and I was in the advertising department. We had many good laughs! One time I had these god-awful high heel shoes on, and I was going down the back stairs…Hertz was at the bottom of the stairs sitting at a desk….you know where this is going, huh? Yep, I fell and almost landed in Hertz lap! He just looked at me and said, “Cindy, if you want to sit in my lap, all you have to do is ask.” I’ll never forget that little smirk he had on his face. Lots and lots of good memories, he was one-of-a-kind! He will be missed!
