Gary “Wes” Moats

Gary Wesley (Wes) Moats, 59, Laramie WY, met his heavenly father on March 3, 2022, at Hospice House in Laramie, with his family by his side.

Wes was born on March 20, 1963, in Laramie to Viola (Hammond) and Gary W. Moats. Two years later, his brother Matt came along, and the two of them shared many adventures throughout their lives. Wes grew up in Laramie and loved all the things that Laramie offered – fireworks, camping, racing motorcycles, baseball, football, and wrestling. As Wes got older, his love of motorcycles grew, and he was a lifelong lover of Harleys.

Wes graduated from LHS in 1981, and shortly after, he went to cosmetology school. In 1985, he married Chrissy Padilla and in 1987, his daughter Faryn was born. Faryn was the love of his life, and he was proud to be her dad.

Wes was a jack of all trades. He owned his own salon for several years and went to Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in the late 90s. He was a great hairdresser and an even better biker. He loved football and spent Sundays and Mondays watching his favorite teams play. He loved his friends, family, and Jesus most of all.

Wes is survived by his parents, Vi and Gary Moats; daughter Faryn (Don) Babbitt; grandchildren Donny and Harlow; brother, Matt (Dusti) Moats, nephew Taylor, niece Bailee; and many best friends.

Wes is preceded in death by his grandparents.

A celebration of life will take place in the summer of 2022. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to Hospice of Laramie.

Vi and Gary: Anne and I were very saddened to learn that you have lost your son Wes. I have a son Todd about Wes’s age and know it would be heart breaking to lose him at a fairly young age. We hope your cherished memories of Wes will console you at this sad time.

Vi and Gary and the rest of the family – I am so sorry for your loss. I never met Wes but heard lots of stories from his Dad while we shared an office working at the Forest Service.
