Frank-Jason (F-J) Harmych

F-J Harmych, 49, of Laramie, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2023 due to complications from pneumonia. Born on March 18, 1973 in Columbus, OH, F-J grew up in Amherst, OH, graduating from Amherst Steele High School. Moving to Wyoming to attend college in 1991, Laramie is where he made his home. He graduated with an Information Technology degree from Wyoming Technical Institute. He married Kendall (Moore) in Laramie in July 1999. They welcomed their only daughter, Malenkaya (Kaya), in May 2011. For the past eight years, he worked as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. He really did consider himself “Planted in Wyoming with Ohio Roots.” And while working hard and being a good provider was so important to F-J, being with family and friends was so much more important.

He loved road trips to Ft. Collins, and building model cars, and searching flea markets and the sides of the railroad tracks for hidden treasures. He loved spirited conversations and opportunities to debate, displaying his deep love of current and historical events.  A truly amazing husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, friend, and employee he will be missed by all those lucky to have known him. He loved and was loved.

F-J is survived by his wife, Kendall, his daughter, Kaya, his father, Richard Harmych, two brothers (Aaron and Paul), one sister (Mandy Paine), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Anne Firago, his grandparents Michael and Justine Harmych, and Frank and Helen Firago.

A memorial service will be held for F-J on March 31, 2023 at 4pm at the Alice Hardie Stevens Center at the Laramie Plains Museum, 603 Ivinson St., Laramie, WY.

I’m so sorry to hear of F-Js passing. He came up to Alberta Canada many years ago and we both did some Weatherford training for the Directional Drilling industry. We hit it off. Born the same year, a month and a half apart, and it seemed like I knew him my entire life. I know F-J loved his family more than anything and this seems so unfortunate to be taken so young. My condolences to his family and may they be blessed with his keen spirit always looking over them.

Kendall and family,
I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I always enjoyed working with FJ. It can be an odd thing why or how we remember our friends, personally I think of FJ every time I eat sushi and it makes me smile. It seemed like most weekends he would be going down to Fort Collins to get the good stuff and trying to convince me how great it was. Well he was right, as was the case for many things he related. What a wonderful human being. He will be missed.
