Florence (Girardi) Plancher

Born on October 7, 1931, in New York City, NY to the proud parents of Emilio Girardi and Erina (Bartoldi) Girardi, Florence (Girardi) Plancher, age 91, passed away on December 4, 2022.

Growing up in the East, Florence often spoke fondly of her memories of her youth while in New York. The sights and sounds, the stores and bakeries, and the close bonds of friends were just a few of the highlights.

When she was 12, her family moved to Philadelphia, PA where she completed her education graduating from Kensington High School in 1949. She then worked at Sears and Roebuck as a bookkeeper until 1955.

The 1950’s were magical times. In 1953, on a vacation trip to see the Wild West, Florence traveled to Rock Springs, WY to visit an aunt. She was introduced to Henry Plancher and they went on a date. The spark ignited when East met West and thus began their long-distance relationship. Florence and Henry were married in Philadelphia, PA on September 3, 1955.

The young couple moved to Laramie, WY and this was home. Florence worked at the Albany County Court House as a clerk until the birth of their daughter, Edie, in 1960. In 1970, she rejoined the workforce at Laramie High School as a cook in the main-dish department until her retirement in 1993. She loved visiting with the kids that came through her line and would remind them to be sure to eat their vegetables.

Florence was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was looked upon as a special “mom” to numerous foreign students who were studying and/or working with Henry. She was always willing to lend a hand and share her wisdom. Florence enjoyed making new friends and entertaining guests. She was a tremendous cook and Italian dishes were her specialty. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, writing cards and letters, listening to music, singing, and embracing the Italian traditions. She was captain of the Shaver’s Drugstore Bowling team and volunteered as a Gray Lady at Ivinson Memorial Hospital. Faith was ever so important to Florence, and she was a member of St. Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church.

Florence is survived by her husband, Henry of Laramie; daughter Edie and her husband Robert Cox; grandson, Devin Miller and his companion Jaycie; great-granddaughter, Londyn Miller and step great-granddaughter Bailey all of Cheyenne. She is also survived by step grandchildren, Keely and Kevin Cox of Denver, and nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania and Arizona.

Florence was preceded in death by her father and mother; her brother Edward Girardi; and infant nephew Peter Girardi.

Services are under the direction of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral home. Rosery service will be held at 6:00PM, Friday, December 16th at St. Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church. Funeral Literary will be at 10:00AM, Saturday, December 17th at St. Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church.
