Carol E. Hearne

Carol E. Hearne, 76, passed away Saturday, September 26, on the 34th anniversary of her marriage to her beloved husband, Timothy.

Carol was born on December 20, 1949, to Hilda and Robert Eppinger in Denver, Colorado. She was one of four children and spent many memorable years in Colorado before eventually making her home in Laramie, Wyoming.

Carol was a well-rounded and eclectic woman with a wide variety of interests and talents. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley and later received her Master’s degree from the University of Wyoming. While living in Colorado, Carol enjoyed playing guitar and singing for the U.S.O. throughout the Denver metropolitan area in her free time. Following her education, Carol worked for 32 years at the University of Wyoming State Veterinary Laboratory as an electron microscopist. During her career, she received the Diatom Award for E.M.S., which included a trip for two to Switzerland. She and her husband, Tim, shared many fond memories of that special trip.

Carol was also active in the Laramie community. She was a member of the Laramie Posse Players Vaudeville group, served on the Historic Downtown Laramie Board, and coordinated downtown activities during Laramie Jubilee Days for many years. She enjoyed involvement in the Foreign Foods group and enjoyed the friendships and experiences that came with being part of the group. Outside of her work and community involvement, Carol enjoyed life at her cabin outside of Laramie, where she raised guinea hens, quail, and pheasants. She was especially fond of her adopted dogs—Bandit, Lucky, Reba, and Zip—whom she and Tim raised over the years.

In retirement, Carol discovered many hobbies that brought her joy and kept her busy. She enjoyed refinishing furniture and had a keen artistic talent for watercolor painting. Her watercolor paintings were inspired by her work in electron microscopy, as well as her love of flowers and the outdoors. Two of her unique paintings earned her a place in a national art show in Sheridan, Wyoming. Another of Carol’s great joys was her senior weightlifting class, which she participated in until recently.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Hilda Eppinger; sister-in-law Marge Rackham; nephew Kenny Hearne; and niece Wendy Davis.

She is survived by her husband, Timothy Hearne; step-daughter Tiffany (Clayton March) Hearne; step-son Jeffrey (Miranda) Hearne; siblings Linda (Steve) Johnson, Peggy (John) Droullard, and Robert (Cathy) Eppinger; sisters-in-law Charlotte (Maron) Davis and Cheryl (Vince) Bath; brothers-in-law Terry (Pam) Hearne, Jim (Peggy) Hearne, Gary Hearne, and Bob Rackham; grandchildren Layne Hearne, Luke Hearne, Enzo Heaton, Brinley Hearne, and Tate Hearne; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Zip.

Carol will be remembered for her many talents, her artistic spirit, her love of animals and the outdoors, her dedication to her community, and the many lives she touched throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m, on Thursday, October 8^th at St. Paul’s Newman Center. Inurnment at Greenhill Cemetery will follow the service.
