Robert “Bob” Kujda

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Bob Kujda. Robert Joseph Kujda was born August 12, 1929, to Polish immigrants in Toledo, Ohio.

He was a passionate but carefree boy living a busy life among the Polish community. The friends he made then were his buddies until the end. Academics were not his liking but he excelled in football, baseball, tennis, golf and if had time – fishing. He attended Bowling Green State University on a football scholarship.

As a loyal citizen in the 1950’s, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant. The Korean Conflict – 300,000 Chinese soldiers had just invaded South Korea and driven into Seoul. Bob was part of the defense to save Seoul from falling.

Later, Bob returned to Korea as a guest and was decorated and thanked for the Marine part in saving Seoul efforts.

Upon returning to the U.S.A., he started his civilian life working for Toledo Edison Company. Starting as a mail boy, he quickly rose trough truck driver to maintenance and as a self-taught project manager. He oversaw huge projects like lighting of the airport, shopping center. He was a dedicated and admired leader.

Upon returning, he headed west, landing in Aspen, Colorado. He perfected his technique and became a fulltime ski instructor for the Aspen Ski Company at age 70, it was a dream come true. On October 1, 1997, he met Anita, who became his life partner and travel buddy.

He was willing to spend his summers in Laramie and become part of the community. Their goal of traveling as much as possible took them on many adventures – China, Central America, Panama Canal, Russia, Europe, Canada, and in Alaska working in Denali Park. In their camper, they traveled the back roads of the U.S. always looking for interesting parts of America and making new friends.

Bob had an amazing enthusiasm for life, at 86, he proved there was no age barriers to exploring new adventures.

We are grateful to have known this unique spirit. It was for me a privilege to be by his side.

He is survived by his children; his grandchildren; many friends; and his longtime love, Anita.

A celebration of life has taken place. Any memorial contributions in his honor can be made either to Hospice of Laramie (710 Garfield Street #339 Laramie, Wyoming 82070) or the Eppson Center for Seniors (1560 North 3rd Street Laramie, Wyoming 82070).
