Ray E. Murdock, 71, of Laramie, died Saturday, December 25, 2021, at his home. He was born November 24, 1950, to Herbert J. and Inez P. (Brown) Murdock in Laramie. He grew up and attended school in Laramie, graduating from LHS as a Plainsmen in 1969. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corp for four years.
Ray served the Laramie community for 40 years. Most of those 40 years were dedicated to being a prominent business owner of Ray’s Downtown Auto Service before retiring in 2017. He enjoyed patrolling the mountains as an avid hunter and fisherman. He was most proud of his family, spending time with them and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also loved playing cards and board games with his family, going to any UW sporting events and tinkering on cars.
He was a member of the American Legion, NRA, and the North American Hunting Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Dustin Murdock; and his brother, Jim Murdock.
He is survived by his daughters, Shannon McCreery of Laramie, WY and Casy Murdock of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Stephany Davis, Kaimani Murdock, Jahmari and Keoni Malone; and his sister, Diane Rogers of Fort Walton Beach, FL.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2021, at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center.

I have known Ray for 60 odd years. He was a considerate neighbor, a consummate mechanic and a good friend. I will miss our neighborhood chats and admiring his Chevelle SS. Condolences to his family.

Our sympathies to Ray’s family. We met Ray in Jr. High and he was our mechanic for many years. He was always ready with a friendly “Hello” and a good visit. Ray will be greatly missed by his friends and members of the LHS class of ’69.

I will always remember the many catches we had,the board games at his kitchen table, badminton with Ray and his mom and hanging out in his dad’s meticulously organized garage. Rest in peace my friend

I will always be great full for Ray helping my mom out by keeping an eye on me.. And the occasional talks he would give me.. Ray you will be greatly missed.

Ray was a true professional mechanic who never took short cuts to fix a vehicle properly. He did it the right way or told you to take it somewhere else. He will be missed!

Ray was a great mechanic. And as I recall, very nice to the babysitters (I was one) leaving them a “coke” in the fridge.

I had a Dodge Powerwagon that was really poorly made, and Ray was able to keep it running until I graduated, got a job, and was able to get a better pickup. He was honest, hard-working, fair and kind. May his family and friends be comforted by fond memories.

I am his one year younger cousin, Kurt L. Kennedy. He was a very nice guy. Sorry to find out about his passing.
