Mary Johnson

Mary Johnson, 74, of Loveland, CO, formerly of Laramie, passed away November 17, 2021 from complications of Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Glenn Johnson. Mary was born November 26, 1946 in Laramie, to Alma (Jo) Manarolla Heckart and Gleed Heckart. Her father died in 1950 when she was 3. Her mother died in 2000 from Alzheimer’s. Mary was of fiery and loving Italian descent which made her the “special” person loved by all. Mary was an honors graduate of Laramie High School and the University of Wyoming. For several years, she worked in the legal arena in Wyoming and Florida and the Department of Energy in WY. She became Office Manager for the University of Wyoming Men’s Basketball team starting in 1983, where she found her “calling”. “Mary’s “Dream Job” with the Cowboy’s program lasted 27+ years until retirement in 2010. She was inducted into the University of Wyoming’s Hall of Fame along with the 1986-1987 “Sweet 16” Men’s Basketball Team. Mary’s dedication to Cowboy Men’s basketball players and coaching staff was beyond reproach.

Following cremation, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Mary was not only Ben’s office manager but she was also my good friend. I have so many wonderful memories of Mary who was quick witted, loved to laugh, and always willing to help. I will miss her. Rest In Peace, my sweet friend.

I was a Colorado high school teacher and basketball coach when Mary was working at the University of Wyoming in the Basketball Staff. She was outstanding to our coaches when she organized the summer basketball camps. We attended the camp for around 20 years when she was still working there. You could not find a better person than Mary Johnson. She was amazing and we will miss her!

I always enjoyed Mary’s sense of humor when we worked together at the DOE. She had fun at work but was extremely efficient and helpful. I would run into her at Cowboy basketball games and kid her that she was having way too much fun to claim it was actually work. Tom Owen

Glenn, my wife has shared with me many of her experiences when Millard Johnson was suffering with alzheimer’s and so me understand what you have been through. Thankfully she has many memories and we are sure you do too. We’re sending you heartfelt prayers.
