Janet L. Benson

Janet Benson, 64, Born to a Donald and Joan Benson on July 3, 1953, passed away in her Laramie home on April 19, 2017.

She is proceeded in death by her mother Joan (Otterson) Benson, and survived by her Son Spencer Benson, two siblings Jane (Benson) Drummond, Jay Benson, father Donald Benson, her step mother Mary Benson, and granddaughter Claire Benson.

Services will be private and held later this week. Her ashes will be buried next to her mother and grandparents in Green Hill Cemetery with a portion to be spread in the snowy range mountains.

Janet Benson was a home town girl, born in Laramie Wyoming where she spent all the best years of her life. As an adult she was a warm sole that cared deeply for her family and friends. She worked at Safeway many years where she retired in 2008, at which time she started her second career in the University of Wyoming Accounts Payable office. Her untimely passing is attributed to a second battle with breast cancer. She took great pride in having been a survivor once before, and even though the cancer retuned last year, she made it clear that she would not let this dampen her spirit. If she could speak today, she would encourage all who have felt the presence of cancer in their life to stand tall and refuse to let sadness control you or your life. She would also remind you that family and friends are the strongest tools at your disposal. Janet Benson was a strong sole that wished everyone well, and those who she managed to touch will miss her greatly.

The family asks that any memorials or donations be given to the Meredith and Jeannie Ray Cancer Center in Laramie Wyoming. Along with this the family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all the doctors, nurses, coworkers, and friends who really pulled hard for her over the last year.

To the Benson family – My sympathies to you during this difficult time. Janet was a true friend to me and I will miss her each day. She taught me to grab the ring while you can because life is very short. I loved her and I will try to honor her each day. I hope you find peace in each other. Godspeed my friend!!

Spencer and Jane,
I have fond memories of your mother/sister from years ago. I remember when you were born, Spencer, and how proud she was of you and the wonderful man you became. My condolences to both of you and your families during this difficult time.
