James “Jim” W. Brown

Jim Brown has rounded third and is headed home. Surrounded by his family, he passed away April 11, 2017, at Laramie Hospice after a heroic struggle with Inclusion-Body Myositis (IBM). Jim was born December 8, 1928, in Los Angeles, California. He eventually moved to Laramie where he graduated from high school in 1945. He joined the Merchant Marine for two years, then returned to Laramie. While attending the University of Wyoming he was drafted. After serving in the Army in Korea he returned to Laramie and spent the next 35 years in the wholesale food distribution business. Many will remember Jim from the years Snowy Range Distributing served the local community and surrounding areas. After other ventures on the road, he returned to end his work career with Modern Printing where, as a delivery man, he was the Director of Outdoor Operations. He was known for his faith, kindness and humor. Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Brown; children, Amy Welsh, Amber Brown and Charlie Brown; and grandchildren, Louise Welsh, Rachel Welsh, Jackie Welsh, Margaret Welsh, Sterling Brown and Brigitte Brown; his nephew Joe Ewing; and niece, Ann Reeves. Jim was a member and supporter of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, the Cowboy Joe Club and University of Wyoming athletics, Myositis Foundation, the Moose, the VFW, American Legion, the Elks, Masons, Shriners, and Jesters.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with the Very Reverend Stephen Askew celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Matthew’s Columbarium.

So sorry for your loss. Jim was the nicest man you could ever meet. He made me laugh in he fall (early to mid 80's) when he would book airline tickets for the World Sries. Never really sure where the series would be played he covered all the bases and booked tickets to all the playoff cities under the names M & D Brown, knowing we could always cancel and change the M(mom) and D(dad) to Joyce and Jim.
