Ellen “Geri” Hood

Ellen “Geri” Hood passed away peacefully on August 16, 2017 at Aspen House, Loveland, CO.

She was born July 6, 1939, the daughter of Charles and Mary Watson in Hobbs, NM.

On May 16, 1970 she married Tom Hood in Laramie, WY.  Together they raised two children, Christina and Tom.  They were always entertaining friends and family at their home and were a source of many loving memories.  In 1984, Geri and Tom became the owners of Reed’s Liquor.  Geri operated Reeds for over 18 years. Geri always made sure everyone felt welcome when they walked through the door.  Geri never met a person she would not call a friend.

Geri met Robert “Bob” Powell in 1996, meeting on a trip to a UW/UNLV football game.  He was a loving companion and friend for many years.  Bob cared for Geri with total devotion until her passing.

Geri took joy in being with her three granddaughters, making every effort to spoil them.  They were her sunshine.

Geri was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, VFW, American Legion, and the Elks.

Geri was preceded in death by her husband, Tom E. Hood.

She is survived by her companion Bob Powell, daughter Christina (Davy), son Tom (Shelley), granddaughters Kala, Kelsey and Kayleigh, sisters Clarice Reyes, Yvonne Zirger, Jeanine Bott, Doreen Curry, and multiple nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral with The Very Reverend Stephen Askew, celebrant.  A reception will follow at the Elk’s Lodge, 103 S. 2nd St.

Bob, I have very fond memories of Geri. About the only time I ever saw my dad drink was sometimes on Friday nights I would meet him and my mom at the Ranger so my dad could have an Old Fashion. Daddy always said she was the only bartender he knew who knew how to fix it properly. I have always admired the the way you have taken care of her, and always spoke fondly of her. I know she will be greatly missed by all. You, Geri's children, grandchildren and families are all in our thoughts.

  • JULIE FROEMKE
