Donald H. (Donnie) Bath passed away August 20, 2015 at the age of 83. He died at home, which fulfilled his heartfelt desire to live out his life at home. Don was born February 27, 1932 in Laramie at the University of Wyoming Stock Farm, better known today as the Wyoming Territorial Prison. His maternal grandfather, James Hutton, was the animal caretaker there and they lived in a little white house on the property. Don was the second born son to Henry P. and Bessie (Hutton) Bath. He was a fourth generation grandson of Henry and Catherine Bath, pioneer settlers of the Laramie area, coming the same year the railroad reached this point in 1868. They established the Bath Stone Ranch where they built and lived in a stone house, which is now listed in the National Register as a historical landmark. In 1964, Don married Jackie Greaser. They were blessed with twin daughters, Tonia Rae and Tamera Lynn, aka Toni and Tami. This past March, Don and Jackie celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Don was raised on the family ranch best known as “The Hart” in the Big Laramie Valley. He attended Laramie schools, graduating from Laramie High in 1950. He spent some years working for his dad on their Saratoga ranch. Winters, he worked at the Ice House, Sheaffer’s Grocery Store, and for the UP Railroad as a switchman. In 1957 he went to work at Laramie Lanes as the mechanic for Pete Burns. They shared a lasting friendship until Pete’s death last year. They also met for breakfast nearly every morning for over 50 years. Don was very proud of the fact that in 20 years of working as Pete’s mechanic, he only had to postpone league play once because he didn’t know how to fix a breakdown. While working at Laramie Lanes, he developed a great passion for the game of bowling. During that time he was one of the high average bowlers in the state of Wyoming. In 1977 Don’s life took a different direction. He went back to his roots and started ranching again on The Hart, as a working partner on the family owned ranch. With the help of family and friends, combined with his boyhood knowledge learned from his dad, he quickly adapted to become a successful rancher. He sincerely grew to love the country way of life. Many of Don’s fondest memories came from yearly camping vacations with family and friends, spent on Elk Island at Jackson Lake, and Halfmoon Lake near Pinedale. He owned a boat and taught many kids how to water ski. At night, his good friends Roy Hays and Al Hilim, played music around the campfire, which made the lake trips unique and very special. Don also looked forward to yearly elk hunting trips to Pinedale and Jackson, where they packed several miles into the wilderness with their horses. They always came home with many tales of adventure. He also enjoyed trips to Mexico with his brothers, Jim and John. Don was easily recognized and remembered for his strong, distinct voice. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bessie Bath, his daughter Tonia, and all four of his siblings, James P. Bath, Ramona Gildea, Betty Anne Drummond, and John W. Bath. Don is survived by his wife Jackie, daughter Tami Browning and husband Gary, grandchildren Chad and Emily Browning. He is also survived by a special daughter by heart, Carole Buelter, sister-in-law Laurine Bath, brothers-in-law Daniel Drummond and Ray Garson and his wife, Marybeth. His extended family includes many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Don’s life will be held Tuesday, August 25th at 1:00p.m., at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Rhett Ivey. Inurnment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery, next to his beloved daughter Toni. Reception will follow at the Bath home. Donations may be made to the Bath Stone Ranch Restoration Fund, c/o Karen Fanning, 520 Beauford #115, Laramie, WY 82072, or to a charity of choice. Services are under the direction of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book, go to www.montgomerystryker.com
