David Wayne Russell

David Wayne Russell, 63 of Laramie

March 24, 1956-March 11, 2020

Born to: Robert Andrew Russell and Myrtle Lou (Tabor) of Rawlins, Wyoming.

He was born on March 24, 1956 in Walden, Colorado. His family moved to Hanna, Wyoming and from there his family moved to Rawlins, Wyoming where he graduated from Rawlins High School in 1975. After graduating he worked at a wool company in Rawlins and then went to Job Core and worked as a cook.

In 1980 Ark of Laramie, Wyoming brought him to Laramie where he got a job working at the University of Wyoming Residence Life and Dining Service as a Ground Attendant but worked in the dish room. He retired in September 2013 after working 30 years there.

While working there he met Doris Hixson and fell in love. They married on September 12, 2013 and had two of her sons there.

He is survived by his wife Doris Hixson of Laramie, Wyoming; three kids, Dwayne Korgan (Amber) of Briggsdale, Colorado, James Hixson of Laramie, Wyoming, Dustin Hixson of Germany; two brothers Carl Russell (Chaquit) of Paonia, Colorado, Rob Russell (Kim) of Rawlins, Wyoming, and one sister Linda Goodspeed (Steve) of Rawlins, Wyoming; and Aunt Margie Heard of Bold Knob, Arkansas.

He loved to hunt, fish, go to the mountains, camping, and being in the outdoors taking long walks. He loved Broncos and every football season he would make sure Doris would write out the schedule each week so he could set up every team that was playing that week. He loved the Broncos even when they were losing. He loved spending time with the grandkids.

One weekend when they were fishing and Doris was in he decided to take a walk without Doris, and his dad (Robert) told him to climb a mountain that he knew that he couldn’t get down but he climbed it anyway and then couldn’t get down so he was up high enough that he could call 911. So the forest ranger had to go up the steep mountain to get him back down and bring him back to camp. After that he was no longer able to go on walks by himself.

Last year while out fishing he would set in the chair and fall asleep until he would feel a fish get on his line and then wake up to get the fish.

On every Saturday like clockwork he would tell Doris it’s almost time to call my Aunt Margie from Arkansas.
