Crystal Colleen Johnston

Crystal Colleen Johnston (61) of Laramie WY, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at IMH on January 17th 2023.

Crystal was born on December 19th, 1961 to Mary Lillian Johnston (Santillanes) and Norman Ward Johnston in Laramie Wyoming.

Crystal was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Linda Johnston and Laurie Jo Weber, and brother Wendell Johnston.

She is survived by her son Jeremy Johnston and his wife Rachel Johnston her grandchildren Harley Johnston and Jaycee Johnston, sisters Vivian/David Madrid & Joyce Smith, nieces Morgan Madrid, Macy Madrid, Brandy Miller and family, Sondra Carver and family, Erica/Bill Macie & Family, nephew Marcus Madrid, brother-in-laws, Denis Smith and Jeff Weber, numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Crystal thought of herself as a gypsy and traveled and lived in many places.  Her most favorite were Hawaii and Ft. Myers Beach Florida.  Of course, Wyoming was her home and she always returned.  She loved to go camping with Jeremy & Rachel in Glendo, spending hours making memories on the Lake. Crystal loved her family more than anything and enjoyed reading books, watching scary movies, going to the beach, and having fun with kids teaching them how to get away with things. She always had a wild spirit, living her best life and making friends along the way.  If you knew Crystal you may have experienced living her best life with her. Some of you may remember her from Walmart, where she worked for 18 years here in Laramie, and in Ft. Myers FL.  She will be remembered for so many things. Gone but not forgotten.

Please keep Crystal and her family in your prayers, and please give the family some love and support.

Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at St. Paul’s Newman Center. Inurnment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

With love and condolences for your loss…
Mary Kirk

As her oldest 1st Cousin I have known and loved Crystal ( Chrissy to me ) since her birth! I adored her as a child and loved getting to know her as adults. We’ve spent countless hours gabbing on the phone and sharing life’s stories, happy and sad ones. We have cried together, laughed and joked together…most of all we shared a deep love that is sort of like sister-cousins…which isn’t surprising as we were all raised together, went to Prep together, holidays, etc. One special bond we had was being pregnant together…although she was so young and me only 5 Yrs ahead of her, we got fat and sassy together. I had Jennifer and she had Jeremy( Cousin Karee also had Andrea day before Jeremy). We were all winging it and made our share of mistakes but what we had in common was…we all deeply loved and wanted our children. I am heartbroken today and will even more treasure all my memories of this beautiful soul! Crystal…and I had many spiritual talks and I have faith that I will see her again. My deepest love to Jeremy and family, Vivian and family and Joyce and family, Laurie’s girls…my heart aches for your pain. Love Kim and Dan and families and Aunt Weenie(Norma)! Love ya Chrissy…I know you hated that Crystal Colleen!

Thank you Crystal for the years of kindness you’ve showed me, during your marriage to my brother, and afterwards. I’m glad we connected via text, this year. You’ll be in my heart and prayers. Fly high, sister. Much love, always. Angie

Crystal, a bright and shining star
Who lit up the world no matter near or far.

We worked with beautiful plants and flowers
And waited for each tomorrow.

Your warmth and spirit will continue to shine from above
As God envelopes you with His love.

Missing you,
Nancy J. Fletcher

I will never forget Crystal’s love and knowledge of all things green. Whenever I had a question about plants of any kind, she knew the answer, and had great tips for every kind of flora. We will sure miss Crystal at the store. Thinking of her family during this difficult time.

I will greatly miss her kind heart and loving soul. I have worked with Crystal for the past six years. We always connected over plants and our love for them. Three years ago she helped me pick out a Peony bush for my garden. It was the first Peony bush I got to come back every year. This year, it bloomed for the first time….
Crystal makes all of us bloom in some way. Yesterday, today and into eternity. I miss you my sweet friend.

Crys was a sweet, loving and nurturing person. She worked hard, cooked excellent and had that big smile on her face every time I saw her. I felt so blessed to have crossed paths with her and create a friendship. I am and was proud of how strong she was and for all of her accomplishments. ❤️💔
