Beth Lord

Beth Lord photoBeth Lord, 68, of Laramie, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, following a battle with pneumonia. She was born January 12, 1948, in Sheridan, Wyoming, to Albert Frederick and Thelma Jane (Adams) Scherry.

She was raised in Sheridan along with her two brothers, many cousins, aunts, and uncles. She began her education at Holy Name Catholic School, and then ventured into Sheridan High School, graduating in Beth continued her education at the University of Wyoming and earned a degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota.

While at the University Beth was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega social sorority and developed friendships that strengthened throughout her life. It was also at UW that she met Joe Lord and, shortly after graduation, they were married June 5, 1971.

Following graduation, the new couple adventured to Los Angeles, California, where Beth continued teaching on a part-time basis until their son, Joseph Charles II, was born. Beth then became a stay-at home mom and wife. They moved back to Wyoming in 1974 and lived in Cheyenne for two years. They then established themselves in Laramie in 1976.

Beth thoroughly enjoyed substitute teaching at Saint Laurence O’Toole Catholic School while she kept her primary vocation as a mother and wife. When Joe II graduated from high school, she began a career as the secretary at Saint Laurence School, a job that also entailed the duties of school nurse and lunch room manager. Her love for the children provided continuous satisfaction, and many wonderful experiences.

Included in her many volunteer interests and activities, Beth was a dedicated communion minister, choir member, and willing to take on any task that needed to be done. She developed a passion for travel, and has always been grateful for her many opportunities to visit great places both in the U.S. and abroad. Beth treasured her companionship with her PEO sisters.

Beth was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband and son, her two brothers, Rick (Kim) and Jon (Nyla Haslip), sisters-in-law Pat (Ron) Randle and Peggy (Al) Jones, brother-in-law Rod (Marlene) Lord, her cousin Penny (Mike) Onstott, and her many dear friends.

Vigil and Rosary services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Saint Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church. Funeral liturgy will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Saint Laurence O’Toole Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Dave Erickson celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Beth’s name to Saint Laurence O’Toole Catholic School, 608 Fourth Street, Laramie, WY, 82070.

I kept track of what she is doing through the years and how the family is doing. I will miss her. She was too young to leave us. I had the same thing last year and it was really hard to get over.
